As an Australian, having discovered these wonderful videos with Tom; I now ,when I think it`s required , tell total strangers with their `out of control`dog , to watch your videos. Some are very thankful and others get defensive. Just trying to make life with dogs so much more rewarding.

GSD’s are amazing dogs, but you really have to put in the work. They are strong, intense and intelligent. All awesome characteristics if they are working for you, but if they are working against you, it can be really difficult. I have a WGWL GSD and she taught me so much. She was a terror in her younger days 😵‍💫, but she is absolutely my best buddy and protector and I don’t think I’d ever be without one ♥️♥️♥️♥️ PS I highly recommend scent detection training, obedience training, or trick training with a working breed like this. It’s not usually physical energy they need to expend, but mental.

I totally agree with mentally stimulating working breeds! My GSD is 10 months and he still has some problems but with these videos and Beckman's it helps immensely! I can't wait because when I save up some money for some more dog training (my dad makes me pay half of everything for my dog and cat) because we're going to do Scent Training, Recall, and finally hir Good Citizen Certificate! I cannot wait!!

I had same experience with my shepherd before you tube. Went to the store and bought a prong collar just for the leverage on walks. Changed everything very quickly. Best decision I ever made. I don't have the pooch but I still have the prong collar 25 years later.

Having moments like these, are exactly why I'm a trainer. 🥲 when the owner has that lightbulb moment, and the dogs enthusiasm for their new learned structure sync up. It only gets better from there way to go Gunner. Way to go to his human too keep it up! 🥰 And way to go Tom. Outstanding content as usual 👏

Yes I must agree there is no better feeling than when a dog gets it. That is the same reason why I became a dog trainer also and To save as many dogs as possible is my goal in life. It is easier to train a dog then it is to train most humans.

What’s the best way to become a trainer? Courses? I volunteer at a shelter and I so want to help train some of our dogs with behaviors that can put them on death row like kennel stress and leash reactivity
@randalsaul6612
@randalsaul6612 2 жыл бұрын
@@NissrineA74 there are courses on line but what I did and would suggest is to find a balance trainer that has a dog training school and a program where you can shadow them for months. The program that I took was year, once a week sessions. You need hands on training to perfect your skill. Watching videos of different trainers helps your see multiple methods. Not one method works for all dogs and volunteering is a great way to get hands on training. Good luck. Nothing feels better than saving a dog from being euthanasia and remember that there are NO BAD DOGS

Some people are quick to say a prong collar is mean or hurtful to the dog. The way i look at it is, normally, once dog has had a few corrections, or even less, they lean so the collar is just "insurance" at that point.In early 2000's, our 10 year old daughter could walk our male rottie anywhere with no issues. And he outweighed her by probably close to 50lbs. We see it like this, whats meaner, a prong collar that you might have to use in order to correct the dog and prevent something terrible from happening, or waiting till the unthinkable happens and he/she is now in a situation where he/she could possibly lose their life? Ill take the prong collar anytime. If used properly, its a very very valuable tool

Same goes with the ecollar! I've had another leash break recently and my gsd completly disregards anything and everything once he realizes he's "free". I have a dogtra 1900s coming in and can't wait to get started with him

It doesn’t cause harm to the dog anyway, Tom’s explained that in other videos. The position, the distribution of pressure, and the thickness of fur all mean there’s no pain for the dog.

Great video, thank you Tom! I'm 65 and a lightweight. I have a 80 lb male german shepherd rescue. I empathise with this lady. I too had given up walks as he was dragging me around and reactive to dogs and people. I was even pulled so badly one day that I ended up face down on the pavement. The UK is so anti prong collars and e collars it's scary how useful tools used in the right way are being taken away from us. My boy understands all the commands but just I have no control when he is out and about. I'm off to buy a prong collar now! Thanks

Oh my God I adopted a German Shepherd named Gunner. He was extremely antisocial. I took him into the woods and released him. I then climbed up a tree and called his name. He went crazy looking for me. Now he sleeps on the floor next to my bed. I taught him American Sign Language and I use a dog whistle. He understands when I say Left, right, forward, stop, sit, heel and shield etc. Now he shields me automatically when people come close to me.

I’ve had a set back my female kelpie was attacked by a Rottweiler and now he has become protective, but slowly he is getting better but I can have him around Rottweiler‘s except this female. He is my best friend and is so well behaved. My female kelpie actually goes into my mother work ( age care ) and hang out with the residence she is 14months and absolutely loves people. I have DDR working line German Shepherd and I praise this owner for her ability to learn and adapt to her dog. She did wonderful! German Shepherds and especially working lines need so many extra commands to understand how to behave. They need to have a job to become balanced dogs. My puppy has taught me so much since I got her last summer. I have this channel and Beckmans channel to thank for the amazing pup that I have been able to raise!❤️ give your dog a job!! They will be happier in the long run.

Understanding the building steps is definitely important but also the leadership skills and knowledge of the owner..you can teach an owner how to do it but the leadership skills, know how and the basic fundamentals of the dog’s known skills must also be there..a lot of owners with problems like this need to go back to square 1 and build from there !!

She is a two yeard old kind of pink nose pitbulI (daughter of a street mother). I live in a México small town and the side walks eare very extremly thin so I have a dizzy and lost my step falling down to the street. I dont feel any pain but I was so confused cause I lost the leash but when I turn back around my eyes I saw her sit in the side walk with. Men it was a very beautiful moment for me. I learned a lot about engagement and confidence because of your vids wich I am so gratefull with you, your team and your comunity. Hugs from México 🙏🐾🫂

Another fantastic job by Tom and handler 👍 and I just realized Lakota is dutch!! Poor camera angles had me thinking she was an all black for the longest time! I swear her and my black female are clones 😁

Good afternoon Tom, another great video! Are you going to have a response to Zak George’s video on the new AVSAB research on using only positive dog training? Eliminating the use of prong, e-collars and any “adverse” training. I just watched Beckmanns Dog Training on this and he has some good points as well.

Hi Tom, I stumbled on your video and you are one of the passionate dog trainers out there, your videos have helped a lot. I have a Siberian Husky who is anxious at times. This will help me deal with his anxiety. Thank you, I even bought a 3.0 herms springer for him. Do you have any videos on how to use them properly?

If you haven’t can you please do a video on leash reactive dogs? My GSD, Zeus knows heel, he knows everything but he still can’t get over the leash frustration towards other dogs. I’ve done the turns and he heels but the second he sees anything it’s past his threshold

Your are truly phenomenal at what you do! You change people's lives and that Is something so special! Did you document your training with Dakota? My puppy is all black just like her! I have a 14 week black GSD and I've been binge watching your videos for tips to try and train him. Were not doing too bad. The only things are on walks he doesn't pull but tends to start walking In front after about 4 steps, I stop ask him to sit and start again and he does the same thing. I have him on a slip leash. The other thing is when myself, his dad and my daughters are playing in the garden he starts to mouth. He never puts any pressure down when doing it but I don't like it and I'll tell him off but then he does it again! Am I expecting too much too soon? I've had him since 8 weeks old but only been trying to train him for about 2 weeks and only had a slip leash for one week. Sorry for the long comment!🐕🐩🐶🦮🐕‍🦺💜

I have 2 GSDs and a treadmill (dogpacer). I am grateful for it! When sick, rainy, too hot or too cold, the treadmill has been a life saver!
