When he leaves on a trip Jillian’s best friend insists that she foster a puppy from the shelter. When pushed out of her comfort zone, she finds that she can care for something else in a way that she hasn’t known before. This discovery leads her on a journey of her own while her husband is away and into a lot of trouble when he comes home.

Exactly what I was thinking.. In fact if the movie was labelled "How to Train your wife" it probably wouldn't have gotten to this point. I guess they do this crap cos men and more chilled out unlike many women out there. 😒 I dunno about feminism, but assuming women won't let that title happen, there is no gender equality.

Zerek Daimonas because if this was how to train a women, it would be hateful and not comedy. Women are a minority and a marginalized group. It would not be ok to do that. Not to mention, there are so many movies out about changing a women, sex, and other things like that, women can have one playful movie

Honestly, as a feminist, I find this movie offensive. It's sexist and demeaning to men. To me it says a lot about heterosexual relationships that can be quite unhealthy where the woman feels like she must be a mom to her boyfriend and boss him around. That's not what realationships should be about.

Said this in one of the threads, but to everyone angry about how messed up it is that they're encouraging women to train men: pretty sure the "moral" of this story will be that you're not supposed to train people like that or something etc etc. But the lead does seem pretty unlikable though.

Well, let me inform you: ALL OF US HAVE BEEN TRAINED. For our parents, for our teachers, for religion, for society, for the pressure of our friends, even for our couples. So yeah, this is more normal than you think. It's just that humans aren't used to seeing it so explicit. Think and analyze, it's free.

What is with all the hate comments? You people are ridiculous. For those of you complaining about 'if it were the other way around...', have you not ever seen The Stepford Wives? Or what about Handmaid's Tail? There are movies depicting sexist situations all over the place, its just a fictional movie. Leslie T Wtf?? The Stepford Wives? "You've beat me at everything, you're stronger, you're faster, you're a better executive, you're even better at sex, don't deny it". These words were literally spoken by a MAN to a WOMAN at the end of the movie. Can you explain to me how does this in any way discredit women? On the other hand, we have a movie which basically tells us that men are dumb creatures like dogs. Yeah, very good analogy. Stupid dumb bitch.

Because if you don't draw the line, if you keep falling back and falling back, eventually your back will be to the wall and then the only options are all out war or total surrender. While both sides have done bad things, right now it's the left chipping away at the foundations of the U.S. and demonizing entire genders, races and sexual orientations. We're still at the point where talking about solutions is an option and maybe this can be solved without violence or bloodshed. But if we keep out mouths shut, if they keep attacking us and we keep falling back until war or extinction are the only tow choices, then bloody hell is going to rain down on the whole human race. You've already got mass shooting, from people on either side of the political spectrum (San Antonio: Right Wing, Dayton: Left Wing. 2 Recent armed attacks on the government, Antifa beating people in he street for supporting the president.) We're on the edge of bloody civil war, and things like this just fan the flames. So people are making their last ditch effort to solve this with words instead of violence and your response is thatthey just shut up. Hopefully you and your don't get caught up in one of the mass shooting from either liberals and conservative that are going to increase over the next few years because people want to silence points of view they don't agree with rather than have an honest conversation.

I strongly believe that you can train people. “Training” people is basically just changing or teaching them. Technically, you train your children to listen, behave, be polite, the idea that you can’t do this to anyone else is ridiculous. It’s a different story weather or not you should do this to an adult

Julia Entz You are right. She didn't contradict herself. I was wrong with that. But still, it is preposterous to compare children with adults. Most children are changed with the use of authority (there are exceptions). Most adults are changed with the use of reason (there are exceptions). The problem with current american society (I am not part of it but I am intelectually interested in the paradigm shifting in this country) is that people are not allowed to grow up into adults. At least that's the impression I got after watching several american ideological approaches by the Left and Far Left propaganda and counter-approaches by Yannopoulos, Shapiro or J. Peterson and others.
@juliaentz8287
@juliaentz8287 5 жыл бұрын
I understand where you are coming from and I'm also not from America (now starting to wonder if by american society you would also include Canada in that as our societies and cultures are similar) however I would argue that toddlers and preschoolers are changed with authority and children around the ages of 6 or 7 are changed with reason also, meaning it's not all that preposterous to compare the two. I agree with Pilar Addams on his take on what training is (teaching one to be better) and that I think, not only we do it already and that there is nothing wrong with it. (However the manner of going behind someones back to do it (or manipulating) someone to do it, like in the movie, is completely wrong. there needs to be open communication and the woman in the movie should have voiced her concerns to her husband) this is just my opinion though.
@vladmarcu3536
@vladmarcu3536 5 жыл бұрын
I just don't like the word training in this context. An owner trains his dogs/slaves. A seargent trains his soldiers. Wherever is training, there is also some absolute authority. Regarding changing human behaviour I prefer words like teaching, guiding or leading. That's why I sincerely hate this movie's title "How to train your husband". It's like men are subhuman dumb creatures who can be totally controlled by some external force (in this case the female). And I sincerely hate the hypocrisy propagated in this kind of movies where men are humiliated, controlled, insulted by women. If it was vice-versa, this movie would have never aired because it would be immediately shut down by feminist organizations. But apparently it's ok if the sexism is towards men. The hypocrisy is real.

@Lindsay Gonzales Hi, Miss Dummy. You must be the chick at a black comedy show which contains material making fun of white folks, and you'd be there to whine about "if the roles were reversed". Just an FYI: If the roles were reversed, it would be like how things already are in our everyday life and our present state of affairs, in general. There's a reason why there's no such thing as reverse racism and reverse sexism.

This is literally a remake of "if a man answers" (1962) which stared Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin. I hate when people try to remake classic/older films and pass it off as something original and new.

I have no doubt Roman Polanski would be thrilled to do it, also seems like a hit for Woody Allen too. "How do I train my 22 year old girlfriend!?" Says the 69 year old writer, living in New York.

How is this any different to Hitch or What Women Want or She's all that or Weird Science? Plus, the plot is an adaptation of the classic 'If a Man Answers' from 1962. If anything, the movie isn't all that original. But then again nobody's forcing you to watch it.

The men in those movies changed themselves in order to appeal to women... They didn't manipulate women to make them "better". Also people aren't allowed to criticize anything now?

Gonna be one of THOSE people. If this was reversed with the men training the wives, everyone would be up in arms over it, but because it's women training men, it's seen as funny. And Leslie T, I wasn't really a big fan of The Stepford Wives either because it was sexist against EVERYBODY. It was sexist towards women in that it was saying: "your husband wants you this way" and it was sexist towards men in that it was saying "every man wants this". Honestly, I think the author of the book had problems.

The fact that it takes generous inspiration isn't so much the problem. In creative work nothing is really original. Its the fact that it looks super bland and is tone deaf to the nuanced way films intended for public release should be thinking about gender relations is a bigger problem. Real feminists should be concerned by this movie.
