Learn how to transpose songs into every key without memorizing major scales or knowing any music theory. Learn how to transpose into the key that best fits your specific voice.
Notes: A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G G#
Flatted: A Bb B C Db D Eb E F Gb G Ab
If transposing a song in the key of Eb to A make a list in a column of all the notes starting with Eb going down the page: Eb E F Gb G etc... and in a column next to that one start with A and work down the page: A Bb B etc...
Figure out YOUR vocal range.
Learn your songs melody on an instrument. Sing along with yourself playing the melody on your instrument, not the chords. Get exact. Match EVERY note. Let every syllable be invaluable and precious.
If a song has one or two moments of pitch outside your range try changing the octave of that specific passage.
If octave idea sounds silly rewrite the melody by changing it slightly, or maybe singing a harmony to that melody that fits within your range and use that as your main melody line.

Love your video: Totally barking but really helpful and inspiring! Only question is what if you want to transpose a key with sharps to a key with flats? I.e. if you want to go from F# major to 3 flat minor. You can't use this method. Really will enjoy your vlogs. Right amount of madness and crazy and funny and still educational. Thank you. Keep the vlogs coming. Really appreciate real people/musicians who are grounded and don't look down their noses at you because you may not know something which is basic to that person. Thank you once again. Will certainly be recommending your channel. You certainly should have a bigger viewing audience.

Thanks Dyayae! yes, please sub and share and consider giving some value back via paypal or patreon in the links under the video. Any small amount helps me make more of these. And sorry, i dont totally understand your question. So you're in F# and want to drop the song 3 half steps? Well, then you're in Eb minor. (F# down to F down to E down to Eb). Does that make sense or did I misunderstand the question.
@ScarletteFiesci
@ScarletteFiesci 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mike for getting back to me so promptly too. I was referring to your method: Would it work if you were transposing from sharps to flats but I can see that if you were transposing from F# Minor to E flat major; in principle if you know your scales, then your method would work. Sorry Mike I had a blonde moment lol. Yes you kinda did understand my question, I was just being stupid. I will see what I can give of course and spread the word. Hopefully that will build up your channel. So glad I found you.

Is they key shift chart based on the circle of fifths or is that something else? I dropped out of music theory, lol
@MikesMusicMethod
@MikesMusicMethod 5 ай бұрын
Not related. The circle of 5ths is mainly for memory and closely related keys. For example...the key of C has no sharps or flats. This isn't because it's brighter or happier. But just because the physical layout of the piano, you don't have to play the keys colored black. That's all it means. Now a "closely related key"(or a key that shares all the notes of C except one, well that key is going to be a perfect 5th up (that's G, g a b c d e f# ) or a key that's a perfect 4th down (f g a Bb c d e). That's it. A 5th up (or invert it to a 4th down) will be a key that's the same except for one note. We use this to generate "borrowed chords". However when most people learn basic theory they only use the circle of 5ths as a teaching/memory device and don't get into the application until later (which is way more fun)

Thanks for this video. I have been trying to do a cover of Master of Puppets by Metallica for a while now, and while I CAN sing the notes, my comfortable range is a fair bit lower and my tone sounds worse trying to sing that high for an entire 8 minute long song. Plus I can get more of the distortion/ heat/ grit in my voice better at a lower range. So even though I've recorded all the instruments already, I'm debating using Pro Tools or something to transpose the whole thing down to where I can sing it comfortably.
@MikesMusicMethod
@MikesMusicMethod Жыл бұрын
You can also try splitting the difference. Let's say your trying to change the key 4 half steps (or 4 frets). You can slow down the music 4 steps, Sing it there, then bump the music and the vocals up 2. So your music and singing will only pitch correct 2 steps instead of 4. but then again...transposing singing can often sound more wonky than doing the music. it's trial and error. Or bite the bullet and re-record the damn thing. haha

Same way. B to E is a P4, or 5 frets. Just move the solo up 5 frets. If that's not possible you have to think a bit more and strange the strrings it's played on. Make sense?

If a song is in the key of G and I put the capo on the first fret and play the same chords, am I still playing in the key of G, or am I now playing in the key of A?
@MikesMusicMethod

Niether. ;) If the song is in G and you capo the 1st fret now you're in Ab (or G#, but the nerds will only call it Ab for reasons that are too long to explain in the comment box). If you capo 2nd fret than you'd be in the key of A.
