I asked a lifeguard why do I keep sinking and he said it's because I workout my legs a lot so it's a lot of muscle. The irony of having strong legs. I don't think its impossible though just will get tired fast
@traindaly9 ай бұрын
@@marshall966 using your legs too much can be counterproductive but with the right technique, you should be able to tread regardless of muscle mass

it can be, the egg beater kick is a version of breaststroke, but has a better ebb and flow or contract/relax with the alternating legs

Id spend most of your time focusing on technique and fitness of treading. squats and single leg exercises may help a little - front loaded in the goblet position to mimic the load of hands above water

How to take breath during water trade? Because I have seen many people chit-chatting during the water trading
@traindaly17 күн бұрын
at first, it may be best to lean back, face to the sky to breathe. As you get better, you will be able to comfortably keep your head above water, talk and tread. A big lunge full of air, with quick sips of air in and out, helps with buoyancy

@traindaly14 күн бұрын

Yeah, as a lifeguard one of the requirements to get certified is treading water without using arms for 2 minutes. Also, in situations like deep water rescues, I can’t bring a tube with me underwater so I need to be able to keep someone’s head above water with just my legs while I get my tube. Luckily I haven’t had to do a real deep water rescue.
@joaquincontreras90499 ай бұрын
@@roxy5659 yhea, i'm doing the lifeguard career in argentina, it is 1 year and is really exhausting. The final exam si rescue 3 people in a mildly dangerous river, one after another
@roxy56599 ай бұрын
@@joaquincontreras9049 that sounds intense, lifeguarding seems to be taken very seriously in Argentina. For me, I went through some lessons online, then had 8 in-person classes for swim tests, save/cpr/first aid practice, and written tests. In the US, or at least in my state, pool guarding certification and beach/river/pond guarding certification are two different things, I have a pool cert but beach cert is harder. I work at a small water park that gets a lot of kids who can’t swim, so saves are frequent but easy. I have had to do a triple save though (that paperwork was fun)

@@traindaly I'm 6'1", but my gym's pool only goes to a little more than 4 ft. How do I practice treading water in water so shallow. P.S. I can't swim, period. Trying to learn.
@traindalyАй бұрын
@@teeoh9192 treading in water that shallow, especially as tall as you are is hard. I wouldn't necessarily start someone who cant swim with treading, Id work more on floating face down and on your back, and teaching the freestyle and safety positions. You might find treading comes more natural after learning how to swim at the surface first.
