When you think you have the gas block adjusted where you want it turn your rifle to the left, right, and upside down and fire from each position. What I have found is that at times the gas may be enough to lock the bolt back while fired from a normal position but with the gun fired from an odd angle it may need more gas.

I always taught that even if you can get the bolt to lock, the gas block may not be properly tuned. I understood that with the muzzle being 12:00 and the charging handle being 6:00, the cases should eject 20-30 degrees beyond the 3:00 position and slightly to the rear of the shooter. Cases ejecting anywhere ahead of 3:00 = under gassed. Or is that an old wives tail?

You might not want to remove the adjusting screw all the way out to put loctite on it. Rather most of the way out. You dont want to get it on the tip of the screw and into the orifice where it would harden.

I’m having issue’s with FTF & FTE on my AR-10 shotgun . I haven’t check to see if it has an adjustable gas block yet . If it does I will try your technique . If it doesn’t should I try a different spring & buffer . Or replace it to an adjustable block ? Also I have seen damaged aluminum blocks . Would you recommend an adjustable stainless steel block . If so what kind would you recommend . I would like it to be reliable . It is an Utas 12 gauge . Thank You It is a Rod Operating System ..

Great vid. Thanks. I just finished my first AR10 308 build. I have a Sentry 7 SLR Rifleworks 15 position gas block. I can get spent cartridge ejection and new round loaded, but I have not been able to get the hammer to cock. The rounds are Winchester 150 grain and ejection of the brass is at about 3:00. Any thoughts on what might be causing this issue?
@OpticsPlanet
@OpticsPlanet 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, Sounds like this could be a tuning issue Yea it’s a tuning issue. For example, the carrier isn’t going back far enough to cock the hammer. If the gas block is wide open and there still not enough power, you might need to go to a different buffer spring/buffer weight? Maybe try higher power ammo? Those are a couple of different ways to possibly troubleshoot this. If none of this works, go ahead and email "techsales@opticsplanet.com", and ask away. Thanks for the question & comment!

A question for anyone. I just finished my first AR build, a 300 Blackout pistol. My only question is about the adjustable gas block, which I have never worked with. I just test fired it and it functions just fine. But, the shell casings are smacking the shell deflector so hard that it is denting all of the necks at the top. Can I assume this is due to too much gas and I should just dial it back?

Yeah, I would dial it back a little. What are the different rounds you are using and grain? The thing is with 300blk, it is tricky to get it at the right adjustment. So many factors :Barrel length, rounds, gas port, buffer spring, suppressed/or non.

If your going to open up the adjustment screw that much, then why don't you just run a non-adjustable gas block. I thought the whole idea behind an adjustable gas block was for turning down the gas to lessen the recoil.. Just saying..

@@boricuaarecibo9259 run an odin works gas block, best solution. Your aim should be to get the lightest buffer weight
@Monjar3
@Monjar3 5 жыл бұрын
You can reduce felt recoil with a lighter buffer and and an adjustable gas block to tune it to reliably cycle the bolt back by reducing the gas. Other benefits are that you can tune your gun for different ammo choices. Tula ammo is very weak and sometimes will not lock the bolt back. Some more benefits are the ability to tune for running suppressors or if your gun is over-gassed. Oh and since he is running ammo without a suppressor or super weak ammo, he is going to have to open the gas almost all the way because most gas ports are set to run reliably without the need for a adjustable gas block. Some companies make the gas port a little bit larger to run all types of ammo like wolf or tula and with higher power rounds it cycles to fast adding wear. If you only shoot a couple mags a year, over gassed wont be a big deal. I prefer running tuning rifles using different buffer weights and running non adjustable gas blocks and running full power brass cased ammo. Usually I only run one particular round per gun. All of my guns are application specific. By using different buffer weights, I tune it to eject cases at the 3 o'clock position when it is about 60 degrees outside. That way in the winter it still cycles fine and ejects to the 4 o'clock and in the summer the 2:30. If I get a suppressor than I will swap to adjustable gas blocks.

I have an "Anderson Manufacturing Low Profile Adjustable Gas Block - .750" - Set Screw Style." However as I am trying to adjust the gas block with my Allen Wrench, it does not seem to be locking onto something. It literally just feels like I am sticking a 5/64 wrench into an empty hole. Can someone please confirm if there is supposed to be a small screw in the port where you adjust? I believe I may be missing something here on the gas block itself.

@OpticsPlanet
@OpticsPlanet 6 жыл бұрын
Greetings! Thanks for the comment. It will completely depend on the gas block and handguard and how the rifle is setup. Some handguards allow for tuning and some require removal of the handguard. The same goes for the gas block - some allow for tuning through the handguard and others require removal. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us!

how about seekins precision adjustable gas block. can I tune it even with the hanguard on? THank you for your reply.
@OpticsPlanet
@OpticsPlanet 6 жыл бұрын
Greetings! It will also depend on the handguard being used. The Seekins adjustable can be adjusted on the fly with two set screws that are accessed on the front and right hand side of the gas block. If your handguard has large enough openings, the gas block can be adjusted without removing the handguard - but it will be completely dependent on the handguard.

Davee david Hi Davee, yea I can see where this can get confusing. Some models have a flat front with no exit hole, making it a no-brainer on how to install them, whereas the seekins is open in the front.I guess the best way to remember the direction of install would be that only one side has an opening for setting the screw, and should always be to the right side of your barrel when looking down the sight of your rifle. IF, of course we are actually talking about the same gas block.
