I just did this style finish with my bedroom end tables. It turned out beautifully! I had some left over brown antiquing glaze and instead of using a little of the wood n stain to add warmth back in, I used the glaze. It worked well! I didn’t want to use even a drop more of the precious retique it product as I had more furniture to tackle. 😊

You won't need to sand it down... We only suggest a light scuffing if it is glossy or slick to add more toothe... Here is a link to the product. If you scroll down you can watch the quick step by step tutorial...

Yes, you can. The new countertop kit has the new generation of liquid wood products called Wood'n Primer and Wood'n Stain. Both have over 60% liquid wood and are durable enough to handle decking. The Countertop kit also comes with our extremely durable top coat called Tripletique. www.countertopkit.com

That looks very nice. I have two questions. 1) If your counters have mild texture, should you use some filler and sand them smooth first? 2) Is the final top coat food safe and how durable is it?
@MyFlippingLifewithRetiqueIt

You can overcome the mild texture using enough layers of Wood'n Primer or you can use our Retique It Mudd to get it smooth before starting... www.woodfinishkit.com

Two questions. My 50 year old kitchen has Formica counter tops. I like the rest of the kitchen, which is an off-white, but I truly hate the countertops. They are an off-white/yellowish/flecked. There is some chipping here and there. I’d like to change them into a dark wood finish. So here are the questions: 1. What do you recommend to fill in the chips to make the surface smooth? 2. The transition between the countertops and backsplash has been caulked. Can I assume that it’s best to remove all the caulk first, then use the Retique It kit, then re-caulk the transition?
@MyFlippingLifewithRetiqueIt
@MyFlippingLifewithRetiqueIt Жыл бұрын
Yes...remove the caulk 1st. You can use Bondo to fill in the chips 1st and then apply your Retique It Wood'n Primer (2 to 3 coats).

I have a tabletop with either a veneer or faux wood laminate top which has many small bubbled areas. I'm not sure if its plywood or MDF underneath. Do I sand the entire tabletop smooth and then apply/finish as you did in this video?
@MyFlippingLifewithRetiqueIt
@MyFlippingLifewithRetiqueIt Жыл бұрын
You will need to sand the bubbles out completely and make it smooth and level. Once that is done you can use the Tabletop kit to give it a wood finish on the top... www.tabletopkit.com

OK so I purchased the kit but I want to know if I can use the wood gel stain over the bleached wood Liquid wood paint which I used The graining tool on the second coat of the bleached wood color. I’m wondering if I can use this gel stain and get the same look without having to use the graining tool again? going straight to your step after graining. Do you think it would give the same effect?

Hi Megan, It sounds like you purchased the weathered kit. This will work great as well but gives you a weathered finish instead of the rustic finish on this demonstration. You should have received instructions with your order. There is also a QR code on the top of the label that will take you the online instructions. You can get the instructions at retique.com/pages/wood-finishes-step-by-step If you need to talk to one of our experts on the phone you can call 800-966-3812 or email service@retiqueit.net

@MyFlippingLifewithRetiqueIt

You'll want to wait about a week. Just use a damp cloth to clean....or for a deeper clean I like using Mrs Meyer's spray cleaner or Clorox wipes.

This is very interesting, but I'm still hesitant to do it because I wouldn't be able to tell if I had done each step correctly or needed to go back and fix something before continuing on. It would help enormously if you would give a straight-on (or overhead) view of the slab after each step. I could tell what it was supposed to look like easily after the graining step, but next you applied the same product over that again, and it looked like it cancelled the graining out. From then on the camera angle showed a mottled look with no graining. At about 25:00 you showed a closeup view again and it did clearly show the grain again, but it looked very different from how it appeared at the end of the graining step, and I have no idea how it got that way without being able to see the straight on/overhead view of the intervening steps.

What color wood paint did you use from retique it? Bleach wood or light wood? I’ve got to that point so far but an scared to death of the barnwood stain (it looks like a briar patch purplish on my other pieces 🙈)…. But I did things backwards. I did 1 coat of bleach wood, then a 2nd coat of bleach wood I used the graining tool (wanted a lot of grain and thought the whole thing would get stained 1 color, not a mix/layering). Can I still use the gel stain and graining tool at this point? Wish I could post a pic. Also - The retake it would paint does not last very long in its container once opened. Mine has not been opened for a month and I went to use it today and it’s consistency is horrible so I believe it is no longer any good because it will not paint on smoothly, it’s like you can see the sawdust grains. Is that normal?

Hi Megan, in this case we did not use liquid wood as our base. We used Wood'n Primer which is the next generation of liquid wood as the base. It is the color of a 2x4. Then we grained Barn Wood Wood'n Stain which is our new Gel Stain with wood in it. Then another coat of Barn Wood and finally we used our White Wash Gel Stain over it to get the French Oak finish. Here is the kit that has everything you need. retique.com/products/woodn-finish-countertop-kit-french-oak

You don't have to grain everything because this is actual liquid wood. But if you want to grain in a tight area, you can cut the smaller of the two graining tools into the size you need You can also bend it as you grain. Take a look at the fireplace mantel video we posted on youtube. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zt6eeaWS376boKM.html Near the end of the video

How durable is this? How long does it last?
@MyFlippingLifewithRetiqueIt
@MyFlippingLifewithRetiqueIt 2 жыл бұрын
It's as durable as the topcoat you use. Our kit comes with a waterbased epoxy alternative topcoat and enough to put on 3 to 4 layers. The only problem with any waterbased topcoats is if you spill anything with rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer on it without immediately cleaning it off. We also sell Hard Wax Oil which is oil based and has a strong odor...

One more question… Can you use the no pain gel stain pickling white over top of the retake it liquid wood gel stain (rather than the water-based white stain you showed)? I have the voodoo white gel stain and that is water-based, should I use that instead?
@MyFlippingLifewithRetiqueIt
@MyFlippingLifewithRetiqueIt Жыл бұрын
Every stain has different characteristics on how they look over specific types of wood. We believe you can, however, we strongly suggest that you do a test piece like a vinyl tile during the process. Then use your stain over the test piece first. The result you get will be the same as your project. You can always get our stain if you don't like the result at that point and finish your project once it comes in. (f you want to do that, then you can just purchase the Barn Wood Countertop kit and add the white wash stain over it...
