I never found this video before my transition into a functioning member of society, but I can tell you these were the steps I took for myself. Creating a whole new identity, going from someone who stays in their room for weeks playing nothing but games, avoiding school, and hell even starving myself. I've built such a great life for myself in the span of a few months. I lost 50 lbs, I got a girlfriend, a job, friends, and I never stay home for longer than a week. I'm always doing something. Last year around the same time this video was posted, I started trying to 'try harder' in life. I did most of the things Cole did (granted that I learned it somewhere else) for about 3 to 4 months, feeling like I'm on top of the world. It was not easy, but it felt like a hard fought war. After that, repetition started getting a toll on me. Burnouts were regular, and falling into 'Entertainment Addiction' eventually made me stop trying almost completely, only 6 months into it. Now, I'm still in that pit hole. Time to time, I think back to the old days where i fought like a champ, a real man, and look like someone I would admire and aspire to be... I'm still not 100% sure what went wrong, but I know a few of the culprit at least. Perfectionism and the fear that came along with it. Hope anyone out there trying to 'try harder in life' don't repeat my mistakes.

I think a big part of it is working on yourself and trying hard in order to feel good about yourself. Like u said about feeling like you were on top of the world for those first months. focusing on how hard youre working in that moment and the pride that comes with it instead of only what you want in the end. loses its value after a while

This hit hard, I just realized I’ve gone through this not once but multiple times and now noticing it I don’t feel as bad reading you experienced the same. Because I feel proud you noticed and trying, this makes me realize not to be hard on myself. I fail. A lot. To a point I feel cursed for life. But the fact I try, the fact I get back up and notice my mistakes shows I’m not a bad person and crave a change. Proud of you! It’s the journey not the destination, so so proud of you! Your experience helps others see the fact we’re not bad or failures. We got this and we’ll be successful, and everyone who reads this.

When you fail, it feels like you are the only human on the planet it has EVER happened to. Everyone feels this way when they fail (save for some narcissists) but once you remind yourself that EVERYONE fails on a fairly regular cadence, and that life is going to hold more of them for all of us, it reduces the overwhelming weight of it and puts it into perspective. I always say to myself when I stumble "someone else is stumbling at this very moment, we'll be okay, let's help each other when we fail" and it has done wonders. Don't get angry, instead be kind to yourself, your inner child is still in there trying to figure out this hot mess we call life.

This is honestly so inspirational; I’m at a point where I’m trying to pull myself out of a rut- underpaid, overworking job where I have to flip my sleep schedule at least 2-3 times a week so I never feel like I have the energy for anything else. OT every week, no sick/vacay time, working 6-7 days a week. I’ve tried starting with my diet, but that’s about all I’ve accomplished in 2 weeks- it just seems so hopeless- but then I see a vid like this and I think for just a moment, maybe- just maybe- I can do it

the comparison does not make sense, when you see a video of only fans you are paying for a service, a service that will give you "pleasure". On the other hand, the self improvement videos are advice, they do not assure you that they will change your life because that already depends on your experience with them. For example, almost a million people watched this video, do you think it worked for all the people who saw it? Or do you think that everyone who put this habit into practice did this habit work for them? And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this content is bad because it's ambiguous or not useful for everyone, its useful for some people, but I'm just saying that the comparison doesn't make sense.

I think one of the most important parts of truly changing who you are for the better is: realizing that your habits really do form your IDENTITY. Good or bad, they're not just things that you do, they're things that you are. You can expect the quality of your outputs to be similar to the quality of your inputs. Been awesome following your journey, Cole. Keep going.

I'm starting this journey first thing in the morning. I've been doing really bad in life, I avoid social interaction with my closest friends and even my really, but really supporting girlfriend, I avoid most of the classes because I find them boring or because I just want to go home and "hide" myself from everyone, I can't even start a conversation with a stranger without getting weirdly uncomfortable. I want to change that, and I will change that, I'm tired of living in this loop in which I have zero control over my life. I can't promise I'll come back to this comment, but if things go right, you will hear from me again. Stay safe everyone, the world is such a better place with you in it.

When I decided to change my life it only lasted 2-3 weeks followed by 6 months of depression or over a year of depression. I started watching these types of videos when I was 15-16 years old. Now I'm 21. If I had started back then, I would have reached the top now, but as I said, it only takes a month at most, then I get depressed again. Your video was the pinnacle of that problem, you explained my 5-6 years of experience in 13 minutes. And I can confirm the sentence "perfection is the killer of dreams". REALLY it is. And you may hit rock bottom, you may fail and you must move forward, that's okay, if your old bad habits have come back, you see that's life, you just have to improve and move forward no one is an Angel, you may make mistakes and you may hit a fall but you will come back from there improving and overcoming.

I will look back at my final roadblock note I made and definitely make some small steps today as well as identifying on a deeper level who I want to be. “If you don’t choose something, someone else will choose it for you”

I'm pretty proud of myself. Last year have been a hell of a journey. Started to cut off my bad habits one/two at a time and I now can tell the difference clearly. First I started to sleep better, after that my goal was to stop pleasing other people too much. I deleted almost every social media apps from my phone, started to do things I like. Also fixed my eating schedule and started to eat much more and little bit healthier. Got job from a storage and allthough it's pretty simple and repeats itself I like it a lot. First time in years I started to feel good, motivated and you know stuff like that. Set a few goals etc. I'm just so glad that I started this jorney :)

Your videos always seem to come at the right time, so thank you for that. Despite all the work I've put into improving myself I never really gave much attention to the fact that I just stop my routine or am not as motivated sometimes and how it affects the bigger picture. I'm going to implement all the things you've demonstrated and catch myself when I hit "The Dip".

The small steps is the most important part of this. You need to changing your self image before you can explode with progress in a given area of improvement. These small steps easily change your self image towards goals that you have for yourself. Taking large steps with clash with your self image will lead to you doubting yourself and potentially quitting.

Thank you so much for this video. I've "discovered" self-improvement about 2 year ago, through yours and Hamzas content and have been an active watcher ever since. Advice for how to improve oneself is everywhere, but very few talk about "the dip". I've experienced it countless times in the past 2 years and have only really started to make progress, although minimal, in the past few months. It's very important to take small steps and not get ahead of yourself, ego does get in the way and striving for perfection is not a good idea. It's very clear you put a lot of thought and love into this video and also speak from experience. Keep up the good work

Been in probably the worst rut of my life for the last couple months. I started taking some steps on self improvement a few weeks ago, and they are crazily similar to what this videos suggests. I still have a long way to go but I’m already beginning to feel a lot better. I no longer am constantly in a battle with my negative thoughts. (Obviously have not gone away completely though) here’s to the journey and the hope I’ll come out the man I want to be

The "new identity" part is such a big one I learned myself as I was hitting my twenties. The phrase "just be yourself" never hit me well, it's a phrase often repeated without the context or care to analyze it for a person and how far it goes. When you stop looking at the person you've become so far as "yourself" you can start realizing how it's at times used in the wrong context. The person you're now isn't a complete being, you always evolve and change with your surroundings, and you can shape that yourself with effort. Bad habits, behavior or just the way you unconsciously react or think without saying or expressing something can be changed, and may very well be why you're not getting allow with other people and the world. You can't truly forcibly change others nor the world, no matter how hard you try, but you can change yourself and force yourself into it. It may sound disingenuous, like whoever does this or yourself is suddenly faking, but fake a personality enough and in time those things may likely stick, as long as you work on your thought process behind them, they aren't fake, but the new you. So instead of getting stuck on the "just be yourself" (even if there's things we really can't change like the things we love doing that's not harmful), think more "be who YOU want yourself to be". And not in the way of completely changing yourself, but look at yourself and see yourself objectively, see yourself as not "self" but someone else, and ponder on what qualities of yourself is really damaging and what could be elevated. Your kind thoughts be more outspoken, your way of judging people to instead be silenced and give them the benefit of a doubt or just your way of trying categorize life and everything into black and white, instead accept that a lot may just be grey. It's a hard thing to describe and rather something you gotta work yourself, like anxiety, depression or other mental issues.

What I find myself in right now is that I'm relatively happy with what I do and where my life is going. The only problem I have is that I'm holding on to emotional pain, meaning I constantly expect being emotionally hurt, so that once someone actually hurts me, it just feels like any other day. The simple thought of letting this guard down, gives me anxiety => I seek comfort in the pain, which is not good, and I'm currently stuck on that and don't know how to get out of it

Today was my first day living on your advice, Cole. To be honest, I keep my motivation in me only on the pure belief that I can be much better than I am now. It's sort of like a placebo effect, huh. But your words and clear visualization made it clear to me that even if I'm not at the bottom right now, it doesn't mean that I can continue to stagnate. Therefore, with great faith in a better myself, I will follow your example and begin to change for the better.
