Why I decided to up grade my SLT Mount to a Celestron AVX Mount, and what mod i made to make it work using my Celestron SLT130 OTA. This will also work on most other mount you might want to use. If you interested in just how I made it work forward to 8:06.

@cd8086
@cd8086 3 жыл бұрын
@@Dawgs241 get a 2x or 3x Barlow lens and a lens of your presence between 3mm and 7mm. Color filters can help to view more details on planets but it’s not necessary. I highly recommend a moon filter though bc the moon is very overpowering during its 3/4 4/4 phase. I use a 3x Barlow and 7mm lens and also a 2x Barlow and 6mm lens for planets.

Hi, Chris. I Googled "How do I adapt a SLT 130 to a CGEM II mount", since I'm waiting for an OTA I want to come available, and your video was what came up. I was amazed that someone else had done it already. Now I'm just trying to find rings that will work THAT ARE IN STOCK!! Crazy times we are living in, but thanks for your insight.

You'd need a wedge for the mound so you can polar align it. That's probably why you get trails with that mount. Otherwise it is a decent scope. Edit: I was talking about the old setup. That new mount looks a beauty.

Hi Chris, I want to thank you for this amazing tutorial that helped me a lot. I would like to ask you how exactly did you add the second finder scope base you have on your ota? Did you drill that directly on the scope? I am thinking of getting one too and was wondering if I shall drill that on the ota or not. Many thanks and keep up the amazing work

Can you or anyone tell me why the front mirror is movable? What is the point? If it were fixed, there would be no need for collimation. Unless I'm missing something. Anyone???
@AstroPatio
@AstroPatio Жыл бұрын
Not sure my self but i bet it has something to do with how the secondary mirror is suspended in the tube. The spider vains are not that sturdy like a glass lense is held in place in a refractor telescope. I guess the design is because it expects movement within the arms holding the secondary mirror. But your guess is as good as mine.

I understand, what size scope can be mounted on this mount that's not a bad idea. It all is on how much every thing weights together OTA, Finder, Guide Scope, and Cameras compared to the Mounts head's payload capacity. In the case of the AVX its capacity is 30 pounds so all the equipment you attach to it can't be over 30 and it's better to stay under that by a couple of pounds or the head starts to not move correctly or sluggish.
@jbar6618
@jbar6618 4 жыл бұрын
Great info, I also liked the DSLR prime focus mod. I'm curious to know if the tube rings helped to reduce flutter in the mount? BTW I made a wedge for my SLT130 out of plywood. It has increased my tracking time to several minutes, however the mount flexing is driving me nuts.
@AstroPatio
@AstroPatio 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know I never put it on the AVX mount without the rings, or if you mean the SLT mount I have not put it on that mount with the rings it would make it to heavy for the mount.
@jbar6618
@jbar6618 4 жыл бұрын
@@AstroPatio I meant have you noticed more rigidity between the dove tail plate and ota using the rings. The little 3" plate screwed to the OTA always seemed inadequate and allowed for flexing in my opinion. Here's a picture of the SLT wedge which works great. drive.google.com/file/d/1cS0816-kRp0_S5mtrWeYslcVLGmDuX2d/view?usp=sharing

Yes the OTA is more sturdy on the mount head with the distribution of contact with the rings.

Hi my friend thank you for your videos, I have the same telescope and I’m really happy to take the best advantage, can you please help me with a good recommendation of a barlow and 3 eyepieces for start please, I want to buy something very nice to take good pictures of the moon, nebula, maybe planets
@evastronomy8048
@evastronomy8048 4 жыл бұрын
I recommend you eyepieces with big field of view, like 68 or 70 FOV. The size of the eyepiece depend on the diameter and focal distance of your scope. The 130 slt has a 5.2" or (130mm) diameter so you can NOT go over 300x in theory, most people suggest going no more than double of the diameter, so 260 x. To know what eyepieces your scope would work with, you have to do this, Divide the focal distance 650 of telescope / focal distance of eyepiece, the result number does not have to be bigger than 300, for instance, an eyepiece of 5mm will give you 130x and if you have a barlow lens 2x it will give you 260x. Again try to find an eyepiece with a big fov, that number you find it in degrees. Your scope has a very good Focal ratio F/5, that is good for either planetary or Deep sky objects like nebulas and galaxies, the lower that number the better for astrophotography. Probably in your city there is an astronomy store, ask them for advice in all accessories you may have, telescopes have too many specification to know. Clear skies...!!!

@@danielricardo3916 Ehi no problem, I learning too, this is an amazing hobby where we learn new things almost everyday, check eyepieces with 70 degrees fov, do not buy very expensive eyepieces over $100 dollars, you can find veery good one under $100 with that FOV. Do not buy the accessory box, is better if you buy accessories as you go, the only good items in it are the 32mm eyepiece, the Barlow 2x and the moon filter, thats it.
