Here Matt continues where Ian McPartland left off! Fishing with a Bucktail is one of the most effective ways to catch and find fish. Since the dawn of time the classic Bucktail has been catching fish of all sizes and species. For Matt it is usually one of the first lures out of his bag once he gets to a spot.
This Bucktail gets taken to the next level once Matt added a Grub and a Dartspin.

caught a 25 inch striper off nauset today around sunset using a white bucktail bouncing off the bottom, first fish of the summer for me!

What ounce bucktail do you recommend for the surf?

It really depends on the current that you are working with. The more current the heavier the jig should be to make sure that you can get to the bottom quicker. I'd say we usually are using 1 to 1.5 Oz Bucktails from the Surf but sometimes we will have to bump that up to go with the conditions we are dealing with. Hope that helped!
