Thank you for addressing the "slow is smooth, smooth is fast" concept. Far too often I see people disregarding this concept saying "no, fast is fast"... absolutely missing the point that speed is irrelevant if you're missing the target. Speed and aggression only work if they're accurately aimed. Institutionalized inbreeding from countless KZfaqrs that don't know what they're talking about, or conflate the concepts of speed and intention. You can be as fast as you want, but it's not going to matter if you're not doing things in a way that gives you the advantage.

Something i told teenage baseball players was, smooth is fast and fast is smooth. Translates to about everything in life. Also appreciate shooting a target more then 10ft away to show true speed

This is a good point that wasn't emphasize as much as it could have been: You don't need to your rifle shouldered to aquire your sights, you just need to look through your sights. Honestly something I haven't thought to do. Thanks!

Very helpful. I’ve been mounting it to shoulder first from high ready. Never had any formal training before. Thanks for this video now I can do it properly moving forward!

Thanks Coch! I've been doing Sight, Safety, Trigger; but I've never been in a gunfight. I'll try it your way but I'm sure some "training scars" will need to be overcome. Oh, BTW, from your other video's I've adopted the "cheek to shoulder" routine and it really helps getting on sight not only faster but with a better position on my LPVO. It's just natural, no hunting around for the sweet spot; THANKS!!!!

I always drill myself, my friends and my sons in presenting from a relaxed position. Sling on, safety on rifle across body pointed down so the muzzle is just outside their knee which puts the bullet tea kettle at about 1 foot outside of body into the ground. I feel this is the most realistic carry method for a civilian in a somewhat sketchy situation or on patrol. I feel high ready and low ready are unrealistic in 99% of scenarios unless actively clearing a threat. I would like to find content covering this. Good video overall. Thanks.
@mattfleming86

That's what I practice the majority of the time, as my primary use of the rifle is around the farm. I also run from slung-over-back (for me, I carry stock down muzzle up so I can avoid a sling swimming situation, plus it is comfy for wear when actually working) Doing the whole "grab stock, rotate around body while being aware of surroundings/muzzle/obstacles, hand on grip, hand pops out to handguard, develop firing position" thing makes low normal ready/high ready seem natural. With the exception of the upper tier one dudes, most of the time you are not shooting at something. Even those guys spend a lot of time not shooting. The trick is to go from not shooting to shooting without being a bumblefck and getting tunnel vision.

It’s not really different when one understands the foundational mechanics of presenting. We’ll create a video on this.

@@mattfleming86 100% I have never seen this kind of “training” on KZfaq. It think it will be great for most of us, most of the time.

Each position has it's purpose. Forexample, I live in a 2 story house. If I were presented with a "bump in the night" scenario I wouldn't use high ready because that would point the muzzle at my family. Similarly, if a police officer is responding to an active shooter and has to maneuver around people frantically exciting the scene they probably wouldn't use low ready as that would flag everyone rushing past. Most of the time walking around Iraq or Afghanistan my right hung in the position you described so, you are technically correct with the "...99% of scenarios..." but did you stop to think that this 1% might have been the focus of and the purpose behind this video?

Thank you. I’m a Navy Seabee, I’m trying to get expert on my rifle qual. I got expert on side arm last week and I really want to get good with a rifle too. It’s a little complicated here because I’m right hand dominant left eye dominant but I will just tape over my left eye for the test. I tried using my left hand but was a horrible shot with that because I was uncoordinated. If you have any more advice with my situation I’d really appreciate it. Thank you for the video.
@lincolnpascual
@lincolnpascual 2 жыл бұрын
I'm also right hand left eye dominant. I trained it out by switching to left hand for part of a session, every session along with doing wire exercises outside of training (my favorite is to do a "camera 1, camera 2" eye switch while reading, watching something, or playing a game... you're teaching your brain to acknowledge the less dominant eye more readily). Your brain still makes the neutral connections needed to work on your dominant hand regardless, and doing so can only benefit you. Try it when you have some free time at the end of a session. It'll start to train you to be more efficient at dealing eyes in your head over time.

I don’t understand how some instructors keep saying not to move your head and just bring the gun up when the sights aren’t aligned with your eye? I have iron sights, I have to slight move my head off neutral to see the sights.

Would this be the same motion from the low ready? It seems like having the stock in your shoulder and leveraging the rifle up might be as fast or faster.
@GryphonIndustrial
@GryphonIndustrial 2 жыл бұрын
Motion is different but concepts are the same. Repeatable head position, bringing the sights to your eyes, etc. There are some extremely fast high ready guys but that being said speed generally isn't the deciding factor between running high or low ready.
@n8dawg4295
@n8dawg4295 2 жыл бұрын
One of the the advantages of low ready is the ability to index the toe of your stock on your shoulder, making it fast on target. Use a shot timer if you can and you’ll see the difference. Generally for most, low ready is faster on target.
@Valorius
@Valorius 2 жыл бұрын
High ready has the advantage of allowing a rapid muzzle strike to the chest or face before engaging. Which is why the SEALs switched to it, according to former USN SEAL Shawn Ryan of Vigilance Elite.

Learn both. Use both. There is no one size fits all solution to accurate conflict resolution (for some reason i can't post with the word sh**ting... wtf?). It's situationally dependent. If you're working in a team and you're above a teammate, it wouldn't make sense to low ready your long distance hole puncher towards them, right? Same in reverse. Or hiding behind low cover... high ready can flag you, and that's as effective as standing out in the open. Work your entire skill set to leverage every possible advantage.

Coch - what do you think of canting the sights over to your eyes rather than canting your eyes to the sights as described by (SEAL) Greg Hake in his KZfaq video on the high ready position?

Why are you aiming so high into the air? I assume there's a target up there... but for the demo wouldn't it make more sense to present the rifle parallel to the earth. It just seems odd to teach the demo that way...
