This video is of me unboxing a Wera Torque Screwdriver Set, in the video I discuss all the functions of this torque screwdriver and show how to change the torque setting, I also demonstrate how to use a Torque Screwdriver in real life using a Hager RCBO. If you're thinking about buying a torque screwdriver but not sure which one to go for, I can highly recommend this one by Wera.

i was going to get this until i did as you have and checked the hager site, and noticed the setting for a main switch is 3.6, and the highest setting you can get on a wera torque screwdriver is 3.5 on one of their models, which is crazy when others make them from 0.1 up to 5.0
@effervescence5664

The annoying thing with the Wera Torque driver is it comes in at least 3 variations: 7440 VDE 0.3 - 1.2 Nm 7441 VDE 1.2 - 3.0 Nm 7442 VDE 1.7 - 3.5 Nm Now many RCBO's currently are 1.2nm on the out going side and 2.5nm on the bus bar, yet main switches can be up to 3.5nm so you either need 2 different Torque driver handles or to swap consumer unit brands you install. I have a lot of Wera stuff these days and they're good tools and kits, yet the Torque driver handle really lets it down considering some manufactures are going from 1.0 - 5.0 Nm - Wiha/Draper for example.

Please return it to 0Nm after use. There is a spring inside and as you increase the torque it stretches the spring. If you leave the spring stretches it can weaken the spring and give you incorrect torque settings.

Nice one , I've got the Wera maintenance kit that comes with all the bits + a socket set and uses the same size bits as your kit , I bought a Wera T driver on its own for about £ 50 and all the various sizes of driver heads fit plus sometimes you need to torque up small nuts in some C/U s and the Wera adapter will also fit the T driver , doing it this way is a lot cheaper + less kit to carry around with you......👍

Nice kit ,however if you have the money get the Wiha Electrical screwdriver as it includes a 4mm hex needs for commercial Eaton boards. Although the wrenches don’t go high enough. But Meter tails can be pulled out when done to recommend torque settings.

I find my experience is enough to tell me if I am over tightening on a terminal. I was talking with my assessor today about all the latest 18th edition changes and how much is manufacter led. Tools, AFDD's, SPD.s, metal cable clips etc etc. The people who write the regs are being influenced by the people who sell all the gear and of course sell us the new books. If the IET was all about safety then the regs book would be available as a free download. Too many vested interests in an industry that is more interested in making momey out of hard working sparks than improving the quality of workmanship and ensuring a decent living.

@@artisanelectrics don't throw them away... They are useful for doing periodic testing of older installations to see if they were up to code from install date. As an apprentice I paid £20 for the 16th edition because it was a knock off version. The guy made a small fortune selling those to us. Car boot full at lunch by end it was empty and he had probably made £400

You should only go one click. Every click represents over torquing - technically the first one is over torqued but there's no practical way to avoid that. I previously worked in mechanical engineering and had a meeting with a torque wrench manufacturer and that was what they said.

£100 ish for that? Extremely good price if so! Ive paid over that for one or two non-torque VDE sets from Wera! I’m not a professional but have been making up KNX panels etc (as well as other small jobs around the home) and have been meaning to get a torque driver for a while. One little job (I know many would do without a torque but not a great idea) coming up so I had better get the driver stand-alone in preparation!

I've put off buying one of these for a while, I've been using a cheaper but uninsulated small torque wrench and taking care (with power off) but delayed it no longer. The need for such a tool is clear if only to prove the correct torque was applied - no such tool, then they couldn't have been torqued up correctly. Two questions: 1. There is a requirement to have the wrench calibrated, when, cost and need? 2. Do I need to fall off my chair every time I tighten a live terminal ;)

Can be a bit iffy on tails, tighten it to a click (at manufacturer specified nm) but you can pull them out so easily after! You end up having to tighten it to a click, wiggle the tails back and forth to re-arrange the strands then tighten to a click again & repeat until wiggling stops making a difference! But like you've said in the comments yourself, better off doing it by the book. At least that way your arse is covered

Nice bit of kit, was looking at getting one myself, they look so cheaply made though?..calibration?, if NICEIC etc don't ask to see proof of cal, whats the point really?.. I like to do things right like you, but sometimes we make a rod for our own backs. Tighten it as good as you can, I have always done this and without failures. Even if you torque the terminal to the manufacturers spec, a few years down the line that terminal can come loose due to frequency in the mains supply (yes it happens), or someone coming in after you to add some other circuit.. where will it all end?.. Great video, thanks for the unboxing, showing how to use it, and the "technical hitch"..I almost fell off my chair laughing :-) I think the screws need torquing up ha ha.. Just ordered one thanks :-)

i dont know why people would give you are hard time for not using a torque wrench, maybe its a london thing because they have so many fires from limp wristed electricians there, after all it was the london fire brigade that pushed for metal consumer units, i guess its not called the big smoke for no reason, ha ha, joking aside, you know when a terminal is tight, its like everything, a few years ago no one would have give a crap, now all of a sudden everyone is using a torque wrench, yeah right. Its all down to rushing about and not taking care while doing the job.

There is some wisdom in what you say, but over tightening can be one of the biggest problems, it’s not just that it’s tight enough. I say best to do things over the top than under.
@acelectricalsecurity
@acelectricalsecurity 5 жыл бұрын
@@artisanelectrics your right about over tightening, but when you have been doing the job for a long time, you know how tight things should be. What could happen is people will torque things up, and think job done, however especially with meter tails, they will come loose, they do need to be really tight, probably more than the torque setting.

@@andrewlougher-harris5492 The Wiha VDE torque screwdriver goes up to 5Nm. It is about twice the cost if the Wera one though and more of a faff to adjust (you need the special tool supplied). It does have the advantage that the bits are slim profile (the insulation does not increase the thickness of the bit meaning that recessed screws are no problem).
