The brown stuff on top is polyester fiberglass resin. When applying any type of mud whether it be body filler, drywall mud, concrete polymers, other epoxies always keep the backside of your trowel or applicator wiped clean or you will leave bits and crap behind as well as grooves that create more work than necessary.

I live in minnesota and its like 10 degrees out in the garage sometimes even colder ive done a bunch of bondo work in the winter and never had to use this stuff. All i do is bring the entire can of bondo inside the house and let it warm up or point my propane heater right in front of the can to get the bondo warmed up before mixing in the hardener if you warm it up it thins back out and is easy to spread just like normal. Also if the panel is cold sometimes ill aim the propane heater at the panel to blow hot air at it where im gonna do bodywork to warm up the panel otherwise it takes overnight for the bondo to cure but with the heater pointed at the work it cures fast and can be sanded within like 10-15 minutes.

I tried thinning bondo down with reducer, and it really worked great. you can get it real creamy and spread it nice and smooth! the only down side is that it takes along time to get hard enough to sand. but I used a heat gun and sped up the process. I've tried thinning it with acetone, and it works, but it evaporates so fast that it's not easy to work with.

i keep it simple, plastic padding fillers for my cars because its the best (uk) any other crap i use for fixing plaster work on houses :P 5:38 thats why i use plastic padding, it wont flake of a spreader like that, it has good bond through out and will flex very well. when its that cold i use a heat gun on the filler/bondo once i got it on the mixing board and BEFORE i add the hardner, that way its nice and flowing again then carry on.

@coherantbliss3483
@coherantbliss3483 5 жыл бұрын
fiberglass patches will work for a short time...if you plan on getting rid of the car soon....etc. The problem with using fiberglass for a patch on metal is it will come loose off the metal. Metal expands and contracts much more than fiberglass and doing that causes moisture to get inbetween the two. I suggest you weld in a metal patch panel. If you don;t have a welder then drill some 1/8 or 3/16" holes around the hole you want to patch then grind smooth. mIx your resin and precut a few pcs of fiberglass mat then put it on over the hole and work the resin and mat into those drilled holes and if you can put more mat and resin on the back side of the hole and over the drilled holes. This will help hold the fiberglass mat onto the metal a bit longer. You can use masking tape to hold the mat and resin onto the panel after you spread the resin on the mat to keep it from sagging/falling off. Resin won't stick to the tape after it has kicked unless you sandwich the tape inside the resin but if that happens then just sand it off with some 36 grit; Good luck.
