I found that after one year attempting to control diabetes and improve other health markers with a plant based diet it is impossible to get enough protein and keep the carbs under 20 per day and eat real unprocessed foods. I was eating according to Joel Fuhrmans protocol. Best A1C I got eating plant based was 6.3 with 2000 metformin daily (that is diabetic). Switching to under twenty carbs per day utilizing meats and no processed foods gave me 5.2-5.3 with no meds. I have actually transistioned to mostly carnivore after 2 years keto.

Hello, how long did it take you to see your numbers change for the better? I'm type 2, and tried keto for 3 weeks and didn't see a change. I gave up n went back to meds. Now, im trying again, but yet again I'm not seeing any change.

@@BPb123 Immediate results for blood glucose when the carbs got cut. Why not try a couple of days just eating meat/ eggs etc and see what the blood glucose is doing. When you said you didnt "see" a change were you actually testing your blood?-- The actual A1C number occurred 9 months after starting keto as that was the first blood draw

@@BPb123 I saw a difference in 3 weeks. When I was diagnosed, I was at blood glucose of 335 and A1c of 12.6. They put me on three meds. Alogliptin, Metformin and another I can't remember. I did not set out to do a Keto diet. I have bought nothing specifically for that diet. I just stopped eating carbs and sugar. At least I stayed in a range that was around 20 - 30 carbs (carbs minus fiber plus sugar) a day, you can't completely get rid of them. Within 3 weeks I was off the Metformin and the other drug. Still on Alogliptin. I lost 27 lbs before I was diagnosed and have lost another 23 pounds since. Blood pressure has dropped a lot. My glucose is in the normal range and stays there. I go back for my first A1c test next week. I'm also interested in what my cholesterol is doing. I did count the calories also. No one is really active these days, if you are quarantined, so stayed between 1200 - 1500 calories a day (I'm around 5 foot in height so reasonable for me). I used salads as a food to stave off the hunger if it popped up, ate those a lot. The thing I can say is everyone is different. Perhaps 3 weeks was not enough time for your body to adjust. I'd give it another shot checking your glucose regularly. If I add a 'new' food, I check at 30, 60 and 90 minutes to see how that food affects me. There a couple I've taken off my list (fruit mainly).

I was told by my doctor not to adhere to the keto diet because it is unhealthy. He said I should eat a balanced diet so I tried the Agoge diet and I am starting noticing less persistent belly fat really fast.

Excellent and very informative. Unfortunately, my doctor says that there is no scientific basis for the keto diet (says it's dangerous actually) or for intermittent fasting. I have been doing both and have kept my blood sugar within a normal range 90 to 100% of the time. He has now given me a 4th medication to take (jardiance) which doesn't work well with low carb diets, so now he's telling me to eat more carbs. I'm so confused. Where do I go for help?

Perhaps consider asking the doctor for a referral to a dietitian.

@@johngrey1074 I did and they (2 of them) were opposed to anything resembling low carb. Four slices of bread three times a day was recommended (15 g x 4 x 3). I then contacted another dietician, and she was also opposed to low carb diets. I am just trying to inform myself as best I can since my doctor too is against low carb diets, intermittent fasting etc. I am taking jardiance now but since I'm on a low carb diet, I can't see how it can be effective. In any case, I have learned to inform myself as much as possible. It seems that the 'health system' cannot help me.

I hate transitioning in and out of ketosis. I prefer to stay in it. Less roller coaster feeling

In ketogenic diet, stoppage of metformin normally leads to higher fasting glucose in blood due to gluconeogenesis. How to manage that. Anybody has something to suggest?

My only regret is not trying the Agoge diet earlier, very great results. Keto really ruined me for a couple of weeks before that.

If you want to lose fat, I suggest the *Agoge diet*. I lost lots of fat and felt great all the way.

Keto works but honestly I felt so tired from the start. Then I tried the *Agoge diet* plan and it also worked, but I didn't feel bad at all, so I'm sticking with the *Agoge diet*.

Before trying the Agoge diet, I tried keto and many other diets but none worked. With the Agoge diet, I lost so much persistent belly fat, finally getting that lean look.

Any good diet plan shoould be healthy and convenient so people can follow it long term. That's why keto sucks, and why the Agoge diet is great. I got rid of my cellulite finally.

In my opinion the Agoge diet is the best diet available, you lose fat fast and feel energetic.

Most of these diets are very harmful to the body, some are outright dangerous. For me, only Agoge diet showed good results and was easy to stick with.

You need carbohydrates in your diet, the keto diet is not sustainable. That's why I tried the Agoge diet and it worked great for me.
