Great video! Just a small correction - the “PT” in AWOS-3PT means that it has the ability to detect and report precipitation and thunderstorms/lightning in the vicinity. It does not mean “part time”. Nice work, guys 👍.

In regards to min climb gradient: I found in the terms manual the following - 1730, page 182 - MCA: The standard for determining the MCA shall be based upon the following climb rates, and is computed from the flight altitude: SL through 5,000 ft: 150 ft/NM 5000 through 10,000 ft: 120 ft/NM 10,000 ft and over 100 ft/NM

Thanks for the great video and great series. These have all been a huge help! At 49:52 when you're trying to put in the radial out of PDZ, you actually can do that in foreflight, you just need to know the distance. The format is FIX/RADIAL/DISTANCE, and can be entered as PDZ/270/13 (paradise, 270° radial, 13nm) or PDZ27013. Of course you need to know the distance so its not perfect, but it can help. The complete clearance into john wayne could be entered as APLES V442 PDZ PDZ27013 V363 V8 SLI. Hope that helps someone!

Also you can add a VOR radial in ForeFlight: enter it like this VOR/radial/distance. So for PDZ270: PDZ/270/10 (distance can be whatever you like)

Just a small correction. MARRK is 21 NM from YKM Vor/Tac. PAPPS is 25 DME from YKM Vor/Tac. The mistake is at 33:01 Minutes. Otherwise the video was extremely informative.

Absolutely love your channel. One of the best out there for sure. Hey quick question, if you hadn't picked up that RNDAL was the intersecting waypoint would you have had to either 1. Track outbound on the PDZ 270 degree radial and then Track outbound on the POM on the 164 degree radial to POXKU or 2. Enter POM and POXKU, load the airway, activate that leg and again track 270 to V363? Also the first time they gave you this amendment single pilot and unfamiliar did you/would you have gotten it first time? I'm assuming just telling SOCAL you are unfamiliar and asking them to repeat would get a slower amendment? Finally, what did you/do you do to prep when flying into a new area so that you can pick stuff like this up ahead of time. Seems like a lot to figure out if the weather was bad and you were single pilot...

Overall great information. I just want to point out at 35:54, AWOS-3PT does not mean it is a part time AWOS. According to AIM 7-1-12 it tells you what kind of weather information it provides. In this case it is the same information as an AWOS-3 with additional precipitation and thunderstorm/lightning reporting.

@14:29 "Irregardless"?!?!??!?!?! Gah!!! Just kidding. :-P Love your content. Please keep posting these very informative streams. As I'm going through my instrument rating I'm supplementing my 'formal' training with your content which I find additionally dynamic and very educational. Thanks for you and your crew's (friends?) effort and time in doing this.

Save any High charts. There is not much distortion. The lat/lon grid is useful for position finding in celestial navigation.

On the SNA reroute, why don’t they give direct RNDAL after PDZ for RNAV equipped aircraft? (Yes, I am coded properly) Btw, I had the same thing happen to me there and in after departing HND to the east.

Nerd stuff: I worked out if you are 10 NM from a NAVAID along the ground at a 3 degree slant the distance will be 10.013NM DME (slant distance). That is an extra 79 feet:-)
