It seems to me very fascinating how you can go from Hague to Rotterdam( or from Rotterdam to Hague) by metro! apart from the metro in The Hague and Rotterdam, I have never met a metro line that connects two big and important cities in any country !! It's amazing!!

There is only one problem with public transport in the NL. There are no trains, buses after midnight, not even during the weekend. If I want to travel and party in Amsterdam I have to take the train in the next morning.

Ik woon in Groningen omdat ik aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen studeer. Hier zijn er geen metro’s en trams, alleen maar bussen en de trein Arriva uit Duitsland. Wanneer mijn familie Nederland bezoekt, gaan wij naar verschillende steden, zoals Amsterdam, Utrecht, en ook Groningen.

I was in Amsterdam a long time ago. 2005 or 2006. I remember that I had difficulty with the tram. I tried it once. However after that I realised it was far better to walk. My accomodation was not far from the main attractions.

Super Video!! De kwaliteit van de Nederlandse treinen is echt top. En het systeem is ook echt handig. Maar ik moet zeggen dat ik ze soms een beetje duur vind. Ik ben laatst jaar naar Maastricht verhuizen om te studeeren, en ik reis met de trein bijna alleen door Belgie. Want daar zijn treine heel goedkoper, vooral voor jongere mensen. Het is gewoon helaas, dat ik als buitenlandse student geen studentenreisprodukt zoals Nederlandse studenten mag krijgen, maar ik ben noog steeds echt blij want ik bijna alles met de fiets kan berijken, doordat de fietsinfrastructuur ook zo goed is. 🚴🇳🇱

Je kan een abonnement kopen. Ik gebruik de abonnement Dag Voordeel, wat ik een veertig procent korting krijg tijdens de daluren en het weekend.

The quality of the public transport has decreased significantly the last 2-3 years. Especially the GVB is A MESS!!! The delays and cancellations are the rules and the prices are unreasonably high. Not to mention the lack of night buses and the schedules on the bus stops' boards that most of the times have nothing to do with what really happens in reality! Something similar happens with the trains although in a lesser degree. Seems like as years go by these companies are more interested in money than the people. It was not like that a few years ago.

Hi, thanks for the video. I wanna ask a question. We buy a ticket, and show it to the machine before we get in the train ( check in) But why check out is necessarry? I prove that l bought a ticket at check in. What happens if l forget check out at the end of my trip?

If you forget to check out with your ov-chipkaart, you will be charged more than the actual fare of the route you travelled. On many stations, you cannot even leave the station without checking out, because the gates won't open without a valid ticket.

I'm German, and I've been to the Netherlands recently by train. And I have a serious question! I got in the train in Germany, and when I got out, I found myself !locked in! by these exact gates. Of course, I had no such card! And I had also paid my train already. So I couldn't get out of the train station 🤣! I finally dashed through them with another passenger, and it made an alarm sound! No one stopped me, but on my way home, I also couldn't get INTO the train station. I tried scanning my Deutsche Bahn Ticket, but that doesn't work. So please tell me, how is this system supposed to work? I'd really like to know.

Hi there! Thank you for your interesting question! So, in general: you can open gates with a QR code only if they have special QR code readers. Otherwise you can open them only with a chip, which is not implemented in Deutsche Bahn tickets. What I would do in such a case: just run to an information point and ask for help. There has to be a way, in the end, I cannot imagine you're the only passenger from Germany having this trouble. 😅

This happened to me as well. There was a communication call button of some sort at one end of the gate so I pressed that and explained I couldn't get out, and they buzzed me out.
