I just found this video today, 2 yrs later. I have my mom's and grandmother's set, same as yours. The smaller, thinner tube you showed they used for cake decorating. The larger cookie press I never saw them use. I was going to donate it, but now that you showed me how to use it and gave the recipe, I will keep it! Thank you so much!

Thank you this was really helpful I have a Mirro cookie press and was worried about using it because some people are saying it’s difficult. One lady on here said turn it all the way and then reverse it just a hair and lift up she’s an older woman and suggested that.

Well that might be a good thing to try. Lol I just picked it up and started using it myself and figured out the best way for me. I do not ever remember seeing my mom used this thing. She did have a metal piece that I'm not sure if it went on this or it was a whole different thing that she used to ice cakes with.

My grandmother gave me hers the same one you have! If you unscrew the bottom you can put the plate in that way instead of dropping in the tube. Hope that helps!

Just in case someone sees this I forgot something. When putting together the press you put the plate inside the press and turn it slightly and it hooks in. I found this out when I washed it and couldn't get it out. Lol

I think the handle was so you wouldn’t warm up the dough when holding the cylinder. Mine doesn’t have a handle. I bought mine when my kids were in high school. Strange to think I am vintage.

The plate has 3 flat sides that twist into the bottom screw-on attachment. Then attach the bottom to the dough cylinder. No need to drop it in.

Bought one of these in a vintage cookware lot, had no idea how to use it, so glad I found this video. Thank you! If noone has said yet, to get rust off, use diet Coke and gently scrub with some aluminium foil, rust comes right off!

Just want to let you know that if you look closely where you drop the design disk you will notice it's got three spots Walker you turn the disk slightly it locks it in 😊

Unscrew the bottom where the die is, then you can easily swap them out and clean the end. The dies lock into place.

for anyone finding this now....The plate needs to go with the # side up (each designed plate is numbered) and you have to fit it into the notches and turn slightly to lock into place. Otherwise when you back up the plunger (like they tell you to, to release the dough) the plate will wobble around & let dough leak thru the sides of the plate. Now I have figured all of that out. What I can't figure out is how to get the dang dough to release from the press. Maybe the dough should be cold? Maybe the pan should be cold? Any help would be appreciated.

I think this was my first video. You can watch my other one and it might show what you just mentioned. The dough being cold would help but the whole thing is it sticks to the pan is how it releases. That's why you don't grease the pan.

@@kathey1981 THX! I think MY cookie sheets might have been the issue too, because they have built up a layer of 'seasoning' & have a roughish texture & at first I was trying to use parchment paper. I asked a friend later & she said yes to the cold dough & yes to cold cookie sheets that are entirely smooth. I'll give it another try before ditching it. 😁

Thank you for the tutorial. You can try Bar Keepers Friend in the liquid/cream version to get that rust out. It’s available in most Walmart’s. It will work nicely on your pretty porcelain sink too.

I'm actually not sure what I use the last time but you can use a simple sugar cookie recipe I'm sure. Anything would work except for like chocolate chip. Lol

I usually do 350 and you have to watch your oven for an exact time. As soon as you see them start to brown around the edges take them out. You don't want to overbake. Happy Baking!

I see you ask several times about the rust on one of your cookie presses. Don’t trash it! It’s a superficial flaw that you can fix in 10 minutes. Maybe if you had the tips but the way it works you have to crank it so it would be very difficult. You would be better using Wilton tips and piping bags.

This is what I make and use; 💥💥💥Dish Soap Paste💥💥💥 INGREDIENTS: 1 Cup of Baking Soda ¼ cup Liquid Dish Soap ( I use Dawn) Mix together well and put in a covered container. The paste will be a little thicker then frosting. You may want to add more or less liquid dish soap to how thick you want it, as the humidity changes the consistency. How to use: I just take my dry Scrubby and dip it into the paste and clean whatever then rinse! I use mine on all my single dishes and pots and pans! I also use it for wiping down my stove, refrigerator, and it cleans my stainless steel sink great without any scratches too! I also split this recipe into 2 containers, as its great for cleaning your bathroom too. NOTE: If you don't cover your paste it will get hard, but still very useable, just get your Scrubby damp and wipe over the top of the paste. 💫When I need to give my instant pot a real good cleaning, after it’s used for sautéing, I put a good pinch (tablespoon) of the paste in the pot then pour some vinegar to just cover the bottom that needs to get real clean….but when adding the vinegar, it will foam up and this is normal. I let it set for about a hour, then clean my pot with a steel pad, and it works like a charm👍
