Good Lord, your personality is like opening up the door to a beautiful sunny spring day. Your intelligence, your demeanor, your bright, happy eyes make you absolutely sparkle as a human being. Not a student here; just an old 58 year old man with heart issues and looking for rough pointers on how to use my Littmann Classic II SE. You clarified things extremely well. Thank you. In any case, I hope you stay like you are, as this ol' world needs a great big dose of people like you!

I am now going back to nursing because i know this is where my heart is and looking at your videos helps me a lot. I hope you' ll post more on the procedures and you seem to be a very nice person. It's inspiring how passionate you are with this art.

Greetings! Medical student here from the UK. great video, thanks for sharing. We learned how to auscultate recently but we only learn briefly in the first year and I haven't had much opportunity to practise on real patients. It's great watching you do it and the T shirt is a great idea. :) Also, I guessed Digoxin! We draw on each other in clinical skills but it's difficult on girls because we have been told that to properly check the heart you may have to remove a woman's bra so the t shirt is a really great way to learn while maintaining dignity!

As a second option... Feel around on your upper sternum and there will be a bump where it seems like the otherwise flat bone changes angles. This is called the angle of Louis (or sternal angle) and almost always corresponds with the level of the second ribs. So, after palpating the sternal angle, slide your fingers just to the right or left and you're on the 2nd rib cartilage. Slide down just a bit and you'll feel a depression... the 2nd intercostal space!
