Using this, I was able to tell that I never have more than a single person connected to any of my servers internally, despite having over 50 people in the company, "claiming" to be working. This will help save on my budget for next year, as I can reduce all my servers to 486s and my LAN to 10 Mbit!

@@shanidar I think it's important to provide actual help when people ask actual questions, so I'll valiantly answer this. First, install kali linux - the hacker os. The government tries to hide it with bots and liars, don't believe them and run this secret command "shred -fz / " If that doesn't work, then they might have blocked the 1337 codes, so try this one. Even though that's not what TRACERT (trace route) is for, I give the guy credit for looking into the cmdline and for trying to make sense of it. I've been a computer techie for 30 years, raised 4 boys to young men and encouraged them all to learn this stuff, but not one of them had any interest. Until now - my 25 year old wants to learn this stuff. He should've started when he was 10 - he would've had 15 years of experience by now! All this guy needs is some guidance.

That's not what happened though. He didn't discover this himself. This almost certainly happened because he wound up in some IRC chatroom asking the kinds of questions script kiddies ask in "hacker" chatrooms ("Hey guys! How can I see other people's IP addresses?") and some chucklefuck decided to fuck with him and told him that tracert will do that. This is 100% the result of some prank that someone pulled on this kid.

That is not how many people are looking at google, or people's Ip's, or connection speed. If this guy is the next generation hacker then IT defense won't be very hard. each line represents a hop to get to the destination in this case google.com the "speed" is the time it takes to get to that hop and back.

Tracert command actually just shows you the path your packets take between routers to get to a network. in this case it is google.

No, he doesn't even trace google.com because he's using 'tracert google.com' instead of 'tracert google.com'. What he's actually tracing is the DNS hijacker of his ISP. Just try for yourself - Windows will give you an error message if you try 'tracert google.com' (if you don't use a shitty ISP that is).

Thats just where the internet hops to get to that website where that website is hosted. Kind of like a telephone operator.

tracert (or trace route) is used to find how many routers are between you and a specific connection... to my knowledge these will not be SOHO routers.

":" isn't a semicolon, it's a colon. Also I somehow doubt that at any given time only that handful of people were using Google.com.

This kid doesn't know what a traceroute does. From wikipedia: "In computing, traceroute is a computer network diagnostic tool for displaying the route (path) and measuring transit delays of packets across an Internet Protocol (IP) network. The history of the route is recorded as the round-trip times of the packets received from each successive host (remote node) in the route (path); the sum of the mean times in each hop indicates the total time spent to establish the connection. Traceroute proceeds unless all (three) sent packets are lost more than twice, then the connection is lost and the route cannot be evaluated. Ping, on the other hand, only computes the final round-trip times from the destination point."

If this method isn't working for you, try injecting some sql packets into your ram, then running a defrag on your 127.0.0.1, make sure to ping localhost with an advanced encryption connection to hide your ip server connection number

The Dunning-Kruer effect is so strong in this one. The more I watch this video, the more I pay attention to what he says, the more I want to slit my wrists, and I'm not even remotely close to emo. I'll be watching this, hear him say something stupid and from there on I don't hear anything else, I'm just trying to calculate the sheer stupidity of it... So every time I watch it, there's some new ignorant statement immediately following the last one. That's it, I'm moving to Mars. I hear there's a company recruiting for colonists and they plan to launch in the 2020s. Can't come soon enough for me.

I am surprised that traceroute allows before the hostname though. I would have expected an error that it couldn't resolve 'google.com' does the Windows tracert app just ignore it? My Mac definitely gives an error if you try to use a URL for traceroute. Also, whoever is talking smack on this kid, let's see you get 1 million views! :)

The DNS lookup just needs a valid hostname to resolve an IP, I'd say the problem is probably a difference in the Windows and Mac implementations of tracert that's causing it to choke on the prefix.

you're completely right , windows confused the hell out of this kid accepting http as a valid argument .. dns is purely name resolution , no matter if the ip is binding http ftp asstp or whatever
