In this video we will be talking about 10 important insights for waking up early from the writings of Marcus Aurelius. He was also a devout student of the philosophy of Stoicism. During his rule, Aurelius found the time to construct a series of autobiographical writings, now known as the Meditations. Which is why in this video, we will be using some of his wisdom as a motivation to talk about 10 things we should do to wake up early.
So here are 10 important insights for waking up early from Marcus Aurelius.
01. Find your Ikigai
02. Prepare yourself for mornings
03. Avoid distractions after you wake up
04. Wake up consistently
05. Go easy on yourself
06. Practice voluntary hardship
07. Find an accountability partner
08. Remind yourself of death
09. Practice negative visualisation every morning
10. Appreciate your life
I hope you enjoyed watching the video and hope you find these insights very insights very helpful for you to wake up early everyday.
Even though Marcus Aurelius wrote it 2,000 years ago - his insights on Stoicism still carry strong weight today. Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium in Athens in the early 3rd century BC. Even though it is over 2000 years old, more and more people are discovering how Stoicism is not only relevant to modern times, but can be applied in very simple, yet strong ways.

Couldn't agree more, haven't had to have cold showers yet thankfully. For me it's painting pictures and writing poetry that gets me out of bed. When I am super tired I just do hobbies. But I have gone from a night owl to getting up at 5am everyday person and my only regret is waiting until I was in my 40's to do so. It gives my very life meaning, I have coffee in the plunger the night before and just heat it up in the morning and get to work on my projects. Of all the getting your act together techniques this is by far had the most results for me.

Buy one of those old school “hammer and bell” alarm clocks if you have trouble waking up. I had a terrible time waking up on time in the mornings. Bought one of those on Amazon for like $10. It’s terrifying and makes you jump out of bed. I hate it so much that now my phone alarm (which I set for 15-20 minutes earlier) wakes me up.

This has helped me in my decision to stay in school or not. It's more a "convenience" than what I want to do, and college has 100% brought out the better side of me. I wake up at 7 every morning and get up, before that, my entire life, I always slept in, felt groggy in the morning, and always wanted to go back to bed. Nowadays I haven't even touched my video games for weeks if not a month or two at this point. All I want to do is work, learn, save, and relax. My conflict with college is every day is eaten by studying, cleaning, and barely working to keep up with what bills I do have (fortunately). I appreciate these lessons, as I probably never would have learned them on my own. I can't help but care deeply about life now. I barely touch my phone when I'm bored, I read, draw, take notes, inspire myself through history. Life is so much larger and vast than we imagine, and it is not a bad thing like I used to think it was. These videos used to feel good but also overwhelming as I never could commit to waking up, but college tricked me into figuring it out (three classes a week make you decide whether laying in bed is a good idea when you can just get up, you're not playing video games or the phone anyway!) I commit to communicating big decisions with my boyfriend, who helped me establish my cleaning business (why I get away with working so little). I feel like the master of myself, truly for the first time.

There is another strategy I used in 2008 when I went back to work after a long absence and was worried I wouldn't wake up at the alarm. In the evening before going to sleep I would set the alarm to go off in a couple of minutes, then when it did sit up bolt upright in bed in reaction. Repeating this ten times was sufficient to train a response.

I’ve suffered for 20 years or so, but it’s gotten worse since trump, and now even worse because I’m basically quarantined from society. Needing to have some tools to help.... we’ll I never even thought of looking it up, I just decided to live with it and overcome it on my own. But this sh0wed up on my home page a just the right time in my life. I suppose it’s the right time in many others lives who are surely going through the same thing. No its not about the alarm, but waking up and going to bed at the same time every day, and when you have been waking early at the same time for a month, you will hardly need to set alarms any more, i have an alarm set to 7 am every morning, but i wake up on my own every time. its about habbits, not just waking up when the alarm rings.
@jdottdeestv8149
@jdottdeestv8149 4 жыл бұрын
@@00Spedmeg00 Not everybody can goto bed at the same time every day. And some peoples body clock is non exssistant. What if you have to get up at a time to which you do not normally wake? I to can envisage a time I'd like to be up and can guarantee I'll wake up within ten minutes of the time I would like to wake, providing an external source hasn't disrupted the patterns [which always happens because, unfortunately the majority of the human race are ignorant, self centred ass whipes] even as we speak I should be asleep, instead, I'm enjoying the dull thud of continuous, rhythmic bass. So therefore one may have to set an alarm to ensure arousal.

It may stem back to someone been up at all times to watch the camp/hut/village as has been suggested but I think its just one of those things you're born with. My ikagi is my millwright trade and learning the craft. As a morning person going strong for about 4 years now after starting to open the coffee shop at 5:30am I can atest to all these being true and helpful I use many of these tips in my daily life already especially now since I’m waking up at 4:45 and making an hour drive at 5:30am to a work site for my new millwright job. Putting clothes out before hand always helps you save the most time I swear and keep your keys on the wall somewhere you can see when you wake up and keep your wallet next to you on your night stand

I didn’t suffer any privation when young; my parents were both successful professionals. Yet for some reason I liked the idea of self imposed “suffering” after I read a great book. Cold showers, running and intense workouts were a constant and when I played tennis I trained for 2 or 3 hours a day rigorously. As the book said, every routine that started out as a painful exercise later became a pleasure, so much so that not doing it created the same pain that at the beginning it caused. Also, as the book said, there are positive spillovers of any willful routine you impose on yourself. Run 5 miles every morning and facing that challenge will make you immediately better at facing any other challenge. This later applied to my professional life and bit by bit it was equally true. Do 3 or 4 algebraic equations with breakfast, by the time you get to work you are a razor sharp trouble shooting machine. Unfortunately you g people today lack this spirit and cell phones are very much to blame.

Worrying is overrated, I mean we're going to die eventually, I might die tomorrow what's the point of worrying about something when I can just change it or be ok knowing it can't be changed. Don't worry, be happy.

Anonymous I shall adopt your sentiment for the day and review it tonight. I will be happy and joyful and won’t leave a moment on its own without some form of prancing/dancing being part of the time that elapse. If I find your idea more subjective to the individual I shall be getting an early night and a late following morning. Thank you for your thoughts and stay happy, you lucky bastard

You can train this in the evening when you're not tired, strangely enough. Do it ten times in quick succession, and you'll be a lot better prepared for when you are at your weakest. Repeat on following nights if you really want it to stick.
