How to Wash and Reproof a Rain Jacket

Wash your rain jacket with me!! It's been 5 years since I got my rain jacket and i've never washed it (guilty) Not only is my rain jacket dirty but it is no longer waterproof. I will be using both the Nikwax Tech Wash and the Nikwax TX Direct Wash In to give my rain jacket a brand new life!

To kill any dust mites I placed my sleeping bag in a wardrobe with an ozone generator. Won't remove grease and grime though, so I like your washing technique.

Excellent 'How To' Hayley! Never thought to wash mine properly & have no idea if it's even waterproof still!! 15+ years old now! 😬 Better get it done, as I think it's going to be a wet Winter here! 🌧️

Haha wow! It was one of those things that you don’t realise how dirty it is until you start to clean it 🤣 I won’t let 5 years pass again!

I've been meaning to wash and reproof my Patagonia rain jacket that i've been wearing for 3 seasons since 2018 and on hikes forever. Never got around to doing it. This came at the perfect time! Thanks!

Hahah! no more or no less than 5 years!! 😛 I definitely filmed this at the right time as a few days later I went on a hike and it rained for days!!

thanks for the awesome tutorial! Always love your soothing voice I was wondering, I have a Kathmandu gortex jacket, only had it for less than a year. Water doesnt bead off like yours but soaks in the water (but I've never gotten wet), it was like this when I bought it too would my jacket have the ability to bead water like yours if I use the DWR wash?

Haha thank you! Maybe I should try record some sleep stories 😛 I do know that Kathmandu recently have gotten rid of their 'top of the line rain jackets' Not sure if it's just for the season or maybe a marketing move. To me that seams terrible that the water doesn't bead, especially if it was like that when you got it. Maybe you might have been caught in that loop hole of when they got rid of their better jackets (because I remember being in awe of my kathmandu jacket when I got it, I couldn't believe how good it performed.) Considering the DWR wash can go on Goretex I dont think it would hurt to give it a go!!
