@musicman89503

The small one doesn't look as such, but the 2 bigger ones are. Keep in mind when you set the depth of the blade to match the item depth you're going to be dulling more than one snap off blade. Plastic/ foam dulls blades real fast.

Really like the hole punch style tool for finger circles instead of the "melting" of the foam with hot copper. Nobody needs to breathe airbourne foam.

I have had some success cutting out the first top section in one piece. Then remove it In a thin layer. Then over cutting your depth by the thickness of that thin layer u have. Then glue the perfect looking piece to the bottom of your cut out. Makes it look perfect even when empty. Still experimenting with glues though. I have luiqid nail on my latest project but it takes up to a week to permanently cure. 😳 I never knew that. Leave tools in place if u choose to glue anything.

yes, that was really just an illustration for cutting. Putting the tape in on its edge is the best way if there is room, or leave the center of tape unpeeled so it holds the roll in place.

@brianway
@brianway 3 жыл бұрын
Andy Galkin are you pushing through the layers as described around 3:35 of the video? Or are you trying to pull and peel the layers? It is heat laminated together and not all foam peels the same. There is some margin of error. It also takes a bit of practice to get it right. Everyone gets a little frustrated in the beginning

@codymaly652

Use a thin blade utility knife (the kind that has snap-off blade pieces) and simply adjust it to the depth you want to achieve. When the blade plunges in the head of the blade holder will bottom out against the surface of the foam. Done! 🙂

Will a dremel leave a clean cut on this? I'm going to organize my socket sets. Standing the short sockets up. Trying to figure out the best way to cut them out.
@stephentilley9695
@stephentilley9695 4 жыл бұрын
JD Gudde Dremel cuts really nice. I used a drywall cutting tip from the local big box and the plunger router dremel. Set the depth to half of the socket and cut around the inside of the line. Fits snug. No need for finger holes either. Also worth a mention is the Osla socket holder on Amazon. Put the sockets in that and cut out the socket holder then cut out their ratchets etc.

I know each socket is it’s own size, but sharpening the edge of various size conduits or thin walled pipe should work well. Probably not reasonable for sockets though, just a thought.

Is nothing more than an X-Acto knives and you could apparently grind them down to be thin 75 bucks for this is insane _who needs 10 blades that would last 100 years how many cuts in foam are you going to do
@brianway

Yes, you could certainly grind all the knives down your self if you have nothing better to do with your time... check out this new Thin Blade knife we are now selling with the kit. It is all about continuous improvement. kaizeninserts.com/products/kaizen-knife-thin-blade - also, For those people that do a lot of cutting in foam, the blades get dull & you loose quality of cut. Therefore replacements are included

This was my thought exactly, and I don’t understand where kaizen even comes from or who “invented” the word or the product. Is it this guy and his company or fast cap? I have no idea it’s all very strange to me. That and the fact this guy seems to be moving a million miles a minute, it’s super distracting.

It was strictly a demonstration of cutting the foam. It was not about the tape. The foam was disposed of after the demonstration. If you do want to store electrical tape in the foam I highly recommend using the plastic container it comes with.

Step 1: contact your local plastics supplier and buy a 4x8 foot sheet of the foam for a tiny fraction of the price. Step 2. Never ever call it Kaizen foam. Its a polyethylene foam. They call it Kaizen to fool people into thinking its a unique to them product. Its not. Step 3. Don't give these assclowns any money, they mark that foam up thru the roof.

You’re actually quite wrong on all accounts. This is a very unique product although it might look similar to others you find, I Kaizen favs and is the actual brand name registered trademark of the product and you can only purchase four by eights in two locations in the United States and we are one of them. The word kaizen refers to continuous improvement. If you would like any other general lessons in The product, feel free to reach out to me. It sounds more like you have a personal issue with me than anything, do I know you?

@@brianway ‘DRC Paintball’ raises a very important question here that you have avoided answering (currently - 26/12/20190) about what are the differences b/w Polyethylene Foam & Kaizen Foam. A simple website insert from you with information that is easily understood by the laymen to indicate the differences would be appreciated & very appropriate regarding this topic/video. Framing the reply when answering ‘… If you would like any other general lessons in….’ adds to the suspicion of avoidance of answering that question. From a quick search on google the material appears to be made of ‘Polyethylene’ [google ‘What is Kaizen Foam - tekno kesim’]. So the innovation here appears to be the layering. It would be nice to know the ‘density’ of the foam used but a visit to a supplier to test yourself would probably give a good indication of suitability. From ‘DRC Paintball’ post, multiple layering of ¼ layers of alternative polyethylene sheets may perhaps (with some application of a suitable glue b/w layers?) be a very good & cheaper alternative to this.

@@drcpaintball Kaizen Foam is made by FastCap LLC out of WA. The foam itself is made overseas, and can NOT be made here in the USA due to EPA regulations of off-gassing. The 2x4 sheets are available through many suppliers, the 4x8's are not, due to logistics. We fabricate the majority of our inserts from Kaizen Foam, but also use other foams. The difference in this material is the cells are much smaller and the extrusion process allows for a softer to touch foam. The heat laminated layers is what makes it unique. That process is controlled to allow the end user to separate the layers of foam, unlike most other types which are not made to come apart. This is why it is an excellent product for the end user. It is easy to cut with a knife, but also mills easily with a cnc router. both options will give great results. Kaizen foam is a registered trademark of FastCap LLC. The word Kaizen is Japanese for "Continuous Improvement" Therefore Kaizen Foam in this case refers to an improved method of storing your tools. Hope this helps??
