Coach Be Fuller and Hannah Morris visit The Climbing Hangar in Reading to test themselves on a set of steep and sloper bouldering problems.
Typically, Be and Hannah enjoy small holds and crimps. But today, they're testing themselves on anti-style boulders to see what they can learn from the process, and how they can get the most from their session.
If you would like to see more from Coach Be, leave us a comment below. We're planning a coaching series, and would love to know what climbing techniques you would like Be to breakdown, and which problems are preventing you from progressing faster.
Coach Be and Hannah Morris learn from each other on different problems graded between V5 and V11. They share tips and techniques for positive mentality during a climbing session, test different climbing methods, and see progress on small and large scales.

Looking forward to the series! I'd love to see deep dives on individual techniques, hopefully even setting some holds to showcase. Like a whole video on heel hooks, not just "here's a heel hook, it's good" but what positions make it stronger or weaker, what mentality to have to find them and get the most out of them, and of course whatever Be and Hannah want to focus on so we can learn. I love the idea of it being a dance on the wall, should be a good topic!

I loved this whole video. Amazing support in both directions. I'm excited to see what comes of Hannah working with Magnus. The only complaint I have with his apparel line so far is that very little of it is geared toward women, and I hope Hannah can help him expand that side of things. As for a coaching series, I love the ideas Be talked about with seeing the movement as its own goal, and not just getting to the top. I'd also second the call for something around returning after an injury, and the mental work it can take to overcome the fear. Lastly, I'm always looking for more good resources on falling and spotting. Injury prevention, basically. Perhaps even something around recognizing when to push and when to stop. Regardless, excited to see more from both of you. Can't wait.

I have been climbing just over a year and have learnt so much from you guys, a big thanks for that. As a novice climber at the age of 45 im interested in how to progress without injury, my head can make my body freeze as I don't want to take risks or deal with uncertainty as i feel i may get injured and then would have to rest. I would be interested in a video on falling and taking calculated risks. I would also be interested in strength training and climbing for the future so not necessarily learning how to flash stuff right now but how to play the long game , a training plan for slowly progressing so to still be climbing at 55+. Also a session on how to combat fear and how to combat the body freezing when the fear hits. Just a few ideas but to be honest you guys create such brilliant content that anything I watch contributes to climbing better and climbing more. Thank you and please dont stop x

Such a great video and collaboration as always. And thanks for mentioning the low energy towards the end. We all struggle with that at times and we collectively need to stop being so hard on ourselves. I know I am most sessions if I'm not at least at 90-95%. The more I climb, the more I realize that mindset is the most powerful muscle you can utilize on the wall. Oftentimes, my head will hold me back from doing moves I know I can do physically, and learning to shut my head up has lead to some the most successful sessions I've ever had.

Super looking forward to a series with Be! It's like extra free sessions with my coach :D Something I've been working on with Be is dealing with or getting over fear of falling on lead and just improving my headgame. Fear of falling, of failing, of committing! The headgame and fears are, for me, one of the hardest bits about sport climbing. I think it'd be great to have an episode on tackling fear or headgame in bouldering and/or lead! It's an issue I can spot in some of my friends and lots of climbers in the gym - where they don't make finish a route or a problem because they're scared of something. Or people not quite willing to make a move.

What I have the most trouble with: 1. How to overcome the fear of a big, more dynamic finishing move 2. Pinches in general. I may not have the correct technique. 3. Overhangs: when do dropknee? Spotting more hidden heel hooks or toe hooks. Also, I think about climbing on long arms, etc., but when it comes to overhang, I have more problems and find myself more often on short arms, etc. 4. Drills are always welcome. I tried many of the ones Be already mentioned and implemented them in my warm-up climbs. For reference, I started climbing 6 months ago and usually go to the gym 2 days a week, sometimes 3 if my body allows it. --> I'm super excited for this series

So excited for more Be x Hannah collab - I have a trillion ideas, but something I'd specifically love you to do a video on is how to exploit your strengths as a smaller climber. I'd love a video that would help us to see our size as an asset rather than a hurdle; because it really can be. Tiny crimpy holds are our friends, we are often super imaginative problem solvers on the wall and we're often great at getting our feet really high for e.g. (I'm 5'2 but also put this request in to inspire my daughter who is really enjoying bouldering with me but is likely never to reach 5' - I'd love her to be inspired and see the potential she has rather than lament her lack of lank...) Thanks so much for the great content :)

It is always such a pleasure seeing the two of you in a video! I am so excited for your coaching series! I would really love to hear something about body consciousness and mental focus while climbing - whether to focus on the next hold, imagining the next move or feeling into a specific part of your body while on the wall and excuting a move. Also I would be excited to learn something about the difference between dynamic and static styles of climbing - how their technique might differ and when / why we might choose one over the other (rather than just identifying as "the static" or "the dynamic" climber). Also, what I might find interesting being adressed is that I feel there is a gap between practicing great technique on easy climbs for your warm up, and then throwing yourself onto your projects - I often find that I completely forget about everthing I thought about when warming up on easier climbs because I am trying so hard that I don't seem to have the extra energy and mental capacity to think about great technique (which I would love to, though).

About Bee's mindset for "I can't reach it". These are automatic thoughts and can't be stopped unless we unlearn them, which takes time. So what do we do in the meantime? What we can do is to learn to take distance from our thoughts and look at them in a non-judgmental way. Okay, I don't think I can reach it. Is my estimation accurate? How far do I concretely think I would reach? Is there something I can learn *even if* I don't reach it? 🙌 Looking forward to the videoseries of coaching with Bee!

I'm 100% with you for a series with Be! Every time I pull off a technique learnt from a video with Be my climbing partners go Wow 😁 my request would be advice on how to improve glute squeezing and creating the pyramid in overhang situations. Always feel like my bum weighs so much more in these situations! Thank you very much for past and future tricks ☺️👍

I would love to know more about rockovers and generally ways to make minor changes to body position that make moves much easier. It's something that's especially difficult to see in yourself and tackle if you're not climbing with someone that's better than you so tips on ways to feel out a body position would be greatly appreciated 😊 Such an awesome video Hannah!

I rather recently started climbing (just 2 months in now, currently climbing v2's and trying/succeeding at some v3's) and I'm having the issue that although I understand what a drop knee, flagging, toes, heels etc. are, I fail to find problems that I can really practice them on. Drills to use at warm-ups for each of the techniques and how to identify on which climbs and how to practice them would be great. Same goes for when to use inside, outside or front of the foot for a foothold and why/how it matters. The climbing hall I go to doesn't have a technique board, so the best thing would maybe be to find specific problems on the moon board and pair up them with specific techniques to try. That way, I could try the technique on the same holds and if I record myself, also compare how the movement looks vs. what it should/could look when executed properly. I really just want to learn what techniques to use, when, how and why as to not form too much bad habits whilst I hopefully don't have many yet. Looking forward to the collab!

Could you maybe do a video on how you do your initial assessment of a climber when you first go into coaching someone. I understand the process involves just watching them climb, but what are you looking for, are there most common go to aspects? Is it more a mixture of improvements you can see and aspects of climbing you are particularly passionate about at the time/researching learning about?

I'd like to see an ep where you demonstrate as many drills as possible. They've always helped me with putting theory into practice; I like to do these during the warm up phase of my climb, though I often forget to actually do them lately.

Yes, would love to see more videos with Be. She seems to be a very good coach. Random question, I noticed you’re using Mad rock shoes and my husband was recommending them to me last night. How are you finding them? I struggle with a snug fit around my heels…
@hannahmorrisbouldering
@hannahmorrisbouldering 7 ай бұрын
I’m really loving them! They felt quite stiff at first but now I’ve worn them in I really like them, and the heel is so good. Indoors I usually prefer a soft, slipper like shoe, but the midsole support and heel on the Drones is so great for support and trusting hooks that I think I’m converted and outdoors they’re fantastic - lots of rubber and support. ☺️

@@hannahmorrisbouldering thank you! They don’t seem to be stocked here in the UK…I found them online in a few French and German sites. Did you also say you’re in Font and they work well out on sandstone? I’m mainly an outdoor climber so happy to hear they perform well outside too.

Could you do a coaching video on topping out. Theee doesn't seem to be much on this topic. I mean those horrible sloper top outs with bad hands and low foot holds. A couple of guys did a video on The Cobra at Burbage, but otherwise I haven't been able to get any advice on this subject and I'm sure there something I'm missing. Good excuse to get outdoors too.
