Fantastic job! I had no idea about the heat gun trick, that gives a great professional finish to the sides. Before this video I have seen a guy doing it with a square table, and fixing well the corners: It looked so great! These are the YT videos that really help and change the way you work inside the house. Thank you so much!

It's called dc fix well that's the name/brand that's well known and available in most home stores in the UK.

No,it is less effective than heat gun.

Yes you can but it will take longer to heat the material to the required temperature

Only sticky back plastics made for this purpose only I think.
