Learn these awesome tips on how to write metal riffs on your 7 string guitar!
I'm giving some of my personal tips that have helped me write better metal riffs. And this lesson is specific to 7 string guitar players.
Why?
Because we have a tendency to just chug away on those super heavy notes. That's fine but I want to help you integrate playing more riffs on your 7 string guitar.
So I'm giving you several types of riffs and exercises that I play. And I believe that learning these riffs and techniques will help you become better at writing your own 7 string metal riffs.
Let me know what part of this video helped you the most! And if you have questions, leave me a comment and I will answer!
Keep it Metal,
Jason

Man, there's also another CD that comes with it that's just straight-forward vocal warm-up exercises. I keep that in my car and find myself practicing that daily!

I bought a seven string not to long ago and have been in love with it ever since. I’ve been playing guitar for 6 years, self taught, no lessons at all. I can’t stop playing KoRn songs on it and just absolutely riffing all over the place.

This is pretty much the single best video I’ve ever seen about 7 strings. It’s so easy to get caught up in just chugging with a 7, but it’s also so amazing when you break out of that, and this video helps tremendously. Just subbed to your channel, and I’m definitely gonna be following your stuff regularly

Hi Jason Looks like I'm going to have to invest in a 7 string guitar, I have 3 other 6 string electric guitar, I'm predominantly a Bass player. I started out playing guitar but found my niche in playing bass, but I do enjoy play guitar as well, and watching you makes it fun to learn!! Cheers!!

Those LTDs are really nice!! And to be honest, I kinda wish I had gotten that instead of the E-II. I would've saved about a grand and still would've had just as nice of a guitar (I have the LTD M-1000 Deluxe and love that guitar!)

Funny story: A boy at 15 walks into a Michigan music shop. He likes Korn and wants his own guitar. He sees a Ibanez used for 650.00. Turns out years later at the age of 31 he is a man and learns it was a MIJ Ibanez and a really good buy. I play mostly 6 strings and Gibson these days, but I still have that guitar and had it restored to its shredding glory. I play a 7 string like its a 6 string to me because I've used it so long, but appreciate how mean a low B sounds. If you go with three note per string patterns, B is easy to add as its two whole steps, and your normal Gmajor pattern for E minor OR you can go B minor for instance and treat your high E like and extra string.

i was thinking about extending my range. not sure if i should buy an 8 string right away. my choice for a 7 string would be the esp ltd frx 407, my 8 string choice would be the legator G8FP. id love to test them before buying, but our local music store has none of them in stock. whats your recommendation?
@jasonstallworth
@jasonstallworth 3 жыл бұрын
If you're new to anything other than a 6 string, I'd recommend trying a 7 before you jump into 8 (which I know nothing about 8 string guitars, and personally, they just don't interest me). It took a while for me to get a 7, and I still play my 6 string guitars more than my For me, it's not about playing low notes for the sake of playing low notes, if that makes sense. I just wanted that option to a bit lower sometimes, but not all the time.

@@jasonstallworth awesome, thank you. i'd guess i have about 5-6 years experience ( i took a long break). i love implementing neo-classical stuff in my metal songs and sometimes it just lacks that deep "doom"-sound. maybe I'll build myself a double neck guitar/bass hybrid

Longer scale lengths like 27” and longer can get a bit tricky to stretch on but it’s never too bad. I’d try one before you buy but be mindful about the scale lengths
@Airtrooper719
@Airtrooper719 5 жыл бұрын
Dude my pinky is literally about 2.5-3 inches, fucking pathetic. But i'm doing fine on the 7 (26.5 schecter), sure stretches can be way harder than a 6, but the good news is, play a 7 in your practice and pick up your 6, it makes the 6 so damn easy to play.

I picked up a 7 string 3 years after I started playing guitar, with super small hands. I turned out fine. I currently own a 7 string with a 24.75 inch scale length, but I used one with a 25.5” scale length for almost 3 years.

How to write the same old dead horse riffs on your 7 that sound exactly like something you wrote 10 years ago on your 6 string that just sound lower. The death metal riffs just sounds like someone trying to play flamenco for the first time with distortion. Also I've heard Jason's music before I know he knows how to record direct or use a mic why is it all I hear is his picking? He has good advice sometimes and he's a good oldskool metal guitar player. I feel like I he's just making it up as he goes sometimes. Maybe instead of trying to hard to be cool. Doing that thing with his voice where he intentionally talks an octave lower. Just call it what it is. How play your 7 string exactly the same as you play your 6 string cause I only like one kind of metal and refuse to try anything else.

😂 Can’t tell if this comment is serious from just someone who has nothing better to do or a joke. Either way, I tried being cool many decades ago. Didn’t work so I stopped.
