I'm not an artist but I am tempted to try light novels. One piece is so inspirational in that its depth and seed planting really pays off for a reader. I already have a great plot and ending but I'm trying to diversify the subplots to avoid ripping it off.

Thanks for the help I plan on making a manga about a young boy named Nim who lives in a landfill in the year 2067 with his friend Davina. They live in a place where people around the world compete in a sport called Cybase with 3 stadiums called the Garrison. Nim meets a coach, head of the Taija team and gets recruited to get a position as well as his friend Davina. Nim has played the sport his whole life and plans on going pro to finally have a decent life.

a manga series I'm working on is called Isekai no Musume. It's about a girl who has a mangaka father that's fallen ill. He desperately wants to finish his manga, but never feels well enough to work on it. One day, the girl finds out that every time she falls asleep, she travels into the manga. When she wakes up in the new world, she finds out that all of the events she's experienced in the other world are written and drawn into a manga. So, she regularly travels into the manga to help her father finish the story (story starts out cute but has some dark elements later on)

Woe, what a perfect timing. Just yesterday I finished my line out in the sea to my story but since I want to make a long story I didn't know how to fit it into the seven-point structure. Now I can check if what I did is at least right and makes sense, thank you! 😃

I want to elaborate on that from my experience since I am also writing a long running novel that it would be beneficial before start writing to make a sketch about characters, world, timeline, and major events. Break them into arcs by having each arc concentrate around a major concept in the story (Note that the arc can be subdivided between multiple volumes). It is beneficial to write a quick summary of each volume which makes it easier to know what is going on later on, because once you start writing long series takes time which may cause you to forget some of the plans that you originally intended to have. Thus, it is beneficial to summarize your story within few pages in an organized manner (of course editing can be done later). One more thing. You may want to focus first on writing a draft of the story before going back to add more touches and edit it. Because as you progress with the story sometimes better ideas or some subplot may come into your mind that makes you change some of the events, characters...etc that had been introduced very early in your story. Which may cause you to lose interest if you have spent so much time on them on your first run. @Midnight X Cross I wonder if you are going to make another reading event as you did before, as I would love to hear your comments about the first chapter I wrote of a long novel that I have been working on for further improvement.

Great video and congrats on 10K subs. My previous story idea Mikon no Miraii was supposed to be a long running manga series (With the intention of it being like the next Dragon Ball or One Piece) but as I said earlier, it got too ambitious and I had to give up on it. Some of the points you mentioned might be the reason why

Thanks for the video it’s super helpful. How early in a story would the inciting incident occur in a long running series? For example would the inciting incident in One Piece be the intro where Gold Roger and the great pirate era are established? What would be considered the inciting incident in Naruto? Also would the falling action be a part of the final boss battle? How would that fit in in relation to something like Naruto? (Spoilers below for any strangers who haven’t watched it) Would the climax be the final fight between Naruto and sasuke? Would the falling action be something that happens after that fight? Or is the climax the beginning of that fight and the falling action is the rest of the fight? Or would the climax be the actual fight, and then the falling action is the bit after they stop fighting where they can see eachothers memories and sasuke finally understands Naruto’s position and goes back to being a good guy? Thanks, sorry for the overly long barrage of questions 😅

I think that is really up to you. If you want to have full control over how each page looks, then describing each panel would be the way to do it. However, if you want the artist to have creative flexibility, then simply writing the story would be enough. 😊

So.. the problem I'm having is with the protagonist. I want her to be sort of an optimistic character that's a ray of sunshine in a slightly depressing world, someone that will over time earn the trust of her teammates and have her optimism spread to them, inspiring them to greater heights. My problem is that I don't know what would motivate a character like that. My original thought, before I thought of what kind of personality I wanted my MC to have, was revenge. Like a bad guy maimed or killed someone she loves and she's hunting it down. That's not exactly the attitude someone with an optimistic lookout on life would have. Would it? I just don't see it. Anything that would leave such a mark that they'd try to go out of their way to seek out someone dangerous to get revenge/justice isn't someone that'd normally be all smiles and have a positive outlook on life. Any advice on possible motivations for such a character would be super appreciated, if any other writers out there are of the mind to share some ideas. ^_^

I think the best way to do this, especially with a depressing world, is to give her someone that she looked up to. And you could still go down the revenge path with this. 🙂 Here's what I think would work: Your protagonist might have had a mother, or simply a close friend who was there for her and brought her up in the world. That person was always super positive and kind to others, even though the world had never treated her kindly. Then due to events in your story, that person is murdered. Your protagonist would likely want to get revenge for that, but due to being raised by such an optimistic person, they would likely also want to see the best in the world (or try to.) The reason for that would be because they would want to honor their loved one's memory. However, this could also cause some internal conflict in your protagonist, since they never show their true hurt or darker feelings under the surface.

You have to find a reason for the character to be optimistic. Define their philosophy then think of why they believe in it so strongly. Theres a book you should read called creating Character Arcs by K.M. Weiland. It defines and explains how to write the "Flat Arc" perfectly.
