Fight Scenes...they're a staple in almost all mediums, but especially anime. With popular shonen like My Hero Academia, Naruto, and Mob Psycho 100, the fight scene has become a staple in storytelling. But how do you actually write one? In this video, Hoodie examines The Anatomy of Story to analyze how My Hero Academia and Mob Psycho 100 follow John Truby's 7 Key Story Structure Steps, and his 9 Steps to Constructing a Great Scene.

Good video, but I’ll offer a criticism: during your extensive explanation of how the scene from MHA utilized each of the 9 points of a scene, it would have helped to put each of the numbered points seen at 13:05 on the screen while you were talking about them along with having them at the end, as you did. It helps prevent viewers from getting lost in your explanation: you could just put the words at the top of the screen for viewers to reference during the explanation.

Very informative, but in my opinion there are simpler multiple ways to write an memorable fight scene If u look at Goku vs Jiren, the fight had 0 points that u mentioned, and it was pretty garbage. And yet it is more memorable and more famous than MHA fights or any other, mainly cause sure its famous before hand, but also cause it works for the simple reason of emotion, awakening UI was expected and yet it still got so much hype. And narrative of Jiren being the strongest and Goku must go past that. Personally Jojo fights are the peak of any writing fight scene, they are heavily Strategic based which makes them relatable cause u can do those strategies they do, u can’t do a kamehameha wave but u can predict ur opponents first move if u know his/her personality. Narrative usually its only on the Main characters while the villains motivation is just them being evil and yet it works I love it, the tension and strategies are so well thought up its amazing

The problem I'm having more on is expressing where to begin with movement. Where to put the thoughts and dialogue between each action. As well as the length of such. I have my image of everything, but putting them into words is extremely different than the visual in my head. I want to write something equivalent to a graphic novel into words. I thought you were going to express the fight scenes as you saw them through words. If you can ever do that I would very much appreciate it.

Same here. I can picture this fight quite well but like.. How do I even start describing it? How do I transition from leaving a ship to now fighting in space.. like I don't know
