We haven't had any privacy since the patriot act was passed. You should read and do an episode on it. No one ever truly takes the time to read the over 100,000 pages involved. The day it was passed was the day America lost its vaunted freedom. The powers that be just don't flaunt it so nobody realizes what's happened.

but do you know why the firewall was put up in the first place? because our social media companies didn't want to play ball with their laws. in Canada for example where i live, if someone were to post something illegal on Facebook, our law agencies have mechanisms to make Facebook bring it down. in the US even, political censorship is routine on those social media platforms such as (rightly or wrongly) censoring posts on covid and the demonstration/insurection (depending on who you ask). on the other hand, China's illegal and political censorship requests (rightly or wrongly) were being ignored. it makes total sense to block these platforms in your own country in light of this

Have you not noticed that most native Chinese or people who are ethnic Chinese working in top positions in technology and science have immigrated or returned to China because of the discrimination against Chinese? Have you not noticed the out of every 100 university graduates in the US only 7 are engineers? In Russia it is 23 in China and India it's in the mid 60s. Have you not noticed that the US produces nothing but poor quality military equipment and pesticide / herbicide laden gmo infested food? Have you not noticed that people in the rest of the world know that US tech firms are just fronts for the intelligence agencies since they provide them with backdoors into all of their systems? Have you not noticed that the BRICS are building an alternative financial, economic and defence architecture that enables each country to pursue its own interest instead of every country being forced to follow the US? Like the M2 .50 cal. Been in service since the 1930s. Almost everything we have outclasses and outperforms the Russian stuff, so, it's more than good enough. Need things in addition to engineers to make stuff, like venture capital, protection for IP, and a creative, entreprenurial spirit. 1 of our engineers may be worth 3 or 9 of theirs. I've worked with network engineers all over the world, and ours tend to perform well. What we lack in sheer numbers, they make up for in other ways. Where did the German engineering team with the most knowledge in nuclear fusion relocate to get funding and set up shop? Russia? China? India? Or the US?

LMAO, they cant do that without losing their own. Too put it plainly, the internet and its mediums are a double edged sword. All nations involved dont want the cables cut, they just want to control those cables and the information going through them. For instance by cutting those cables to the island in 2022 they realized that they made themselves blind until those cables were repaired thats why they havent cut any since. All nations use the internet to spy and collect data cut those cables and you blind yourself as well as others. As I siad its a double edge sword. On the bright side much more data is being transmitted via satellite communications , using landlines and hard cables much less making these undersea cables all but useless in the near future. Starlink is a perfect example of this happening, and the fact that china is still moving forward with laying cables only proves that they are at minimum 50 years behind us techwise and are no threat.

@NEVIXIA starlink is not in space for one. Only reason it stays up is hot air and it's still in the atmosphere. Second it's new and not everyone uses it. None of the internet or cellular data you've ever used went through a satellite and even starlink uses mostly cell towers lol.

@@ForageGardener Yes it does. I actually have a relative who designs and tests these systems. The Starlink constellation comprises of several thousands of artificial satellites, designed to relay broadband data on an intercontinental level. And satellites don't stay up by "hot air," nor are they in the atmosphere; they are in a state of constant freefall, suspended by centrifugal force produced by an orbital velocity, specifically low-Earth orbit. While Starlink does use elevated antennaes, it's mostly intended to transmit and receive from satellites, which in turn do the same to and from other towers. Think of it like a series of mirrors directing a beam of light.
