No I don’t recommend doing the cheap paint option l the reason Little Greens, fired Earth and Farrow and ball are good is that the pigment is what makes the paint lovely. The cheap copy always looks cheap. Emmaus is a charity for the homeless. It’s not just a brocante.

@@arnicepernice8656 Sorry to disagree but I used to use F&B a lot and ended up twice swearing off them. I gave in last year and ordered a pot , over 100 euros for my kitchen and prepared and undercoated the walls and then began with the F&B and it was a catastrophe, four coats and it's still not right. I tried a brush and two types of roller and it's still patchy. I changed to the 'copy', the same formula as F&B have sold their formula to Leroy Merlin and it took two coats on another set of walls. I still have a large tin of F&B for the hallway and apprehend what it will be like, luckilly there will be a lot of art on these walls to hide any problems. I even lost my deposit on my paris appartment because the F&B paint was patchy after two coats. My best friend who is a muralist had warned me but they have such lovely colours. Little Greene is much better but what a price and if it is possible to have the colour mixed locally why not, unless it's all about the label which makes little sense when you are on a budget. Each to their own but I will never go to them again except for their colour swatches. I have ordered 20 samples of Edward Bulmer for the drawing room panelling, still not decided to use them as a sample is one thing but a wall is another. The Leroy Merlin paint is not 'cheap' paint, it's a good make and many professionals use it. Maybe you could try it first if you live in France.

@@TheFiown no I live in the uk. I always use little greene for the walls and sometimes Fand B for woodwork because I like some of their colours. I like to support a local business which they are to me and also one whose ethics are good and environmental principles too. I’m sorry about your experiences. Maybe it is the type of plaster you are applying it to?

@@arnicepernice8656 I used it on several types of walls so that cannot explain that. When I lived in Paris the shop was nearby and I bacame good friends with one of the head techniciens there. I feel that Little Greene has a better pigment ratio. I have several rooms to do and recently gave up on using water based paint on windows and doors, after preparation, sanding special expensive undercoat and three coats of paint it now chips at the slightest impact! I used a good Liberon paint on the ceiling but still gave it three coats as I have no intention of redoing any of the rooms in my lifetime ! I all for allowing the house to 'age' ! I have to paint the library floor as previous owners have badly stained it in several areas, water stains and ink stains so will have to look into the best paint for that. Best wishes

I did not think of that in terms of the sink. Actually, now that I am thinking, I probably should ask the owner.

I also think the sink was for servants. Especially if that was on the third floor as that's where they would've stayed. The fireplaces in front of the windows is a little strange. I've never seen that before.

There are lots of channels of people restoring their chateaux that are not scripted but just the reality of owning a chateau. They are not for TV.

Honestly, we haven’t started any fireplace yet, not sure how they work. The previous owner did utilize them quite often, we just haven’t learned their mechanism yet. I will update once we figure it out. Thanks for watching!

Hello, we checked all those issues before the purchase. The roof is good, water access is good too, the electric system needs updating (not up the the current code but no need to rewire everything). So the big ticket items look good, at least for now. What we did not anticipate is new doors and windows. They make the Chateau energy inefficient at this point. Thanks for agreeing on repainting that mint green! 😆. As for the tiles, I am still not convinced. It may look like the new owners should preserve all details, but please believe me- it’s not entirely like that. Lots of intentional damage prior to us had been done to the building- clearly they did not have the intention of preserving (I will cover that in the future- it’s actually sad). Yes, we will upkeep as much as possible, but I think I need a fresher look in that foyer. It does not mean that we won’t put those tiles elsewhere, just not in that particular space.
