SURPRISE! This is the first of a short series of videos I have been calling my 'mini series', where I chat to friends and acquaintances about their experiences of living in France. I didn't expect to get this out so quickly 😊😇🥳👀🤯
We talk about how they have settled in France and any obstacles they may have come across.
We chatted for hours but I have cut the video down keeping in the bits I think you will be most interested in. You have the option of course to FF if you want to search for particular subjects.

I want Vanessa to go back in time and start a YT channel from the beginning of their journey! How interesting that would be to watch 🥰 Australians would be happy to pay the extra costs for things if the value was there, but we pay such a lot of money (and have for a long time) for pretty much everything but don't see that value. Eg. To see a GP for 10 minutes, it's $95. Unlike Denmark, they pay such a lot in tax but can see the value and where their money goes.

I found this interview very interesting and I like this new idea of yours to visit people who have moved to France from other countries & find out why and what they will be doing there for a living or retirement or both...I just cannot understand why anyone would go through all the work, expense and trouble to be legal there and live there for years, only to say that eventually they see themselves going back home? WHY? If you are going to put in a good deal of time in the "new" country at a certain age isn't that where you see yourself spending your elder years too? I truly don't believe it's so easy (unless you have money to burn) to just pack it all up at 70 or 80 years of age just to go back where you came from originally. I do believe I you are becoming the new Barbara Walters....you go girl!

I have no idea who Barbara Walters is ( must research now) So glad you are enjoying my channel ❤️ feel free to spread the word 🙂 Re returning to hone country. I think with most people it's the fear of being alone, most of us can do most things with support but if that disappears....... A lot of us would rather not think too far ahead and just live for the day rather than live with 'what if's',so I do understand but feel it is a real shame. Thanks for watching ❤️

Thank you so much Jan and Vanessa, that was so interesting to learn of your journey moving to France. Vegimite and butter go in everything quite nicely in my book, as a child growing up in London I hated Marmite but the last 50yrs living in Australia I can honestly say Vegimite is so yummy and leads hands down. I can understand now why a lot of people have chosen to move to France, it has a lot going for it. It is expensive here in Qld, Australia but the food quality is good, grass fed beef and lamb also totally free range eggs. Great vegies that do vary with the season, but for the young growing families now it is hard. Thank you both, I enjoyed this plus the sound was great Jan. Take care 💕🇦🇺

Hi Liz, the cost of living g over all has to be 50% lower than QLD Australia. Low Housing in the Mayenne region prices is just the begining.

What a fascinating and highly informative conversation! I really enjoyed Vanessa's Aussie perspective on life in France. It seems that she and hubby are quite happy and settled. I would love to see photos of her house or the BnB website! Jan, the questions were great! You knew exactly what to ask Vanessa to satisfy subscriber curiosity. I'm so thankful that we plan to RETIRE. Running a business sounds like a lot of headaches and red tape!

Question of maiden name in France : there is only one legal name in France, your birth name. You can be known, called by your spouse name, men can do that too ! You're not obliged to add your spouse name on your legal paper, but it can be useful. It's normally in form Mrs A B spouse X. As my former husband has a foreign name people found difficult to say, I took it out my voting card ( you vote on you birth name) wedding, divorce, death all is added on your birth certificate in the "book" of your birth place town hall.

Hello Brigitte, I assume by your name that you are at least from a French background? Thank you so much for that explanation ❤ We have always wondered why it is that way. Thank you for watching too😊 Hopefully we'll speak again one day.

@@FOPYSFrance yes I'm french. Maybe it's because France was a patriarchal country, it's the father name that was important, and it was difficult to legally change your name. Now you can choose the family name for the kids, the father, the mother one or even both, but it's for all the kids. With a new law an adult can now change his legal name, his father's one for this mother one, that was mostly done because of absent or awful father.

Thank you so much for this very interesting interview. The questions were well prepared and the answers were thorough and sincere. I am French, living in Région parisienne, and I wonder whether you have fresh markets in Mayenne. I enjoy cooking and I go three times a week to my « marché ». I love it because products (veggies, fruits, fish, meat, charcuterie, cheese, eggs, flowers) are very fresh and less expensive than in shops. Some products are sold directly by the producers or are produced locally. I don’t like supermarkets so much (too much packaging as Vanessa said, low quality in general in my area, products coming from far away). I also regularly go to an organic shop or two. Our farmers struggle a lot, their problems deserve to be taken into consideration.

Bonjour Mureille, I am sorry for the delay in responding to you. We do have markets with fresh produce in practically every town. It is interesting that you find the markets cheaper, for us they are more expensive. It is often the case that the produce does not last very long which makes it difficult to buy for the week. I imagine if you live in a large town it is possible to buy fresh daily and that must be wonderful. When you live in the countryside it makes more sense to buy a weekly shop so as to use less fuel in your car. There are many things to take into consideration. We like to treat ourselves and support local producers when we are at fêtes etc; Thank you for watching Mireille 0:02 ❤
