WBDE that’s not exactly true, just a West Point degree is no different from a regular college or university degree. Companies want experienced military operational officers with proven leadership experience. Taking leadership courses and actually leading men/women while motivating, training and promoting is totally different and what attracts companies. That’s what the corporate world needs, are leaders that can motivate and design creative ways to increase productivity of employees. Amazon is a good example, within their leadership roles are many former military officers.

Thank you for an amazing job of sharing the benefits of personal writing! You are so right on every point. I did the same thing in college and it was the only thing that kept me sane. I learned that ink is a wonderful memory cement when it comes in contact with paper, and when life gets weird and you need to sort things out there's no greater (or less expensive) therapist in the world than a pen and blank page. I hope the whole world sees this video and takes your lessons to heart.

On another site, I read the account of an enlisted Russian language specialist who had a rough time learning the language at the Defense Language Institute. Things got better for him when he accidently dropped his flash cards into a deep rain puddle, soaking most of them. He bought a stack of index cards and started transcribing the old to the new. He realized that by doing this it made him concentrate better, he gained better retention and his grades improved. Seems writing focuses the mind.

YS graduates will be efficient in any approach to a mission while able to explain every detail with great knowledge, can't even argue with these guys cause Big brains. 2. SS graduates will achieve any goal by sheer will and muscle power, Enemy is raining down bullets? Run past em, Low on ammo? That's what the knife is for....those guys. 3. ROTC, just chill as fck. I had a guy on the Sky Diving team come up for review and he (in an unguarded Moment) said all that was ever Discussed among those prepping for the Exam was conjecture from a guy who knew a guy. Some guy hoped to make himself look better by making others look dirty. Sid Berry had just pinned on his third star. A more incredible Leader than General Berry does not exist. I had to walk 8 hours / tours on the area because I was late for class. I was with class of 1977 in company F1 from 1973 to 1975, then opted to not go back and take my yearling year over again, because I flunked a european history class. Any ways I had a 1 class break right after lunch on either tue/thurs or mon/wed/fri and I would hit the rack for that hour. So I set my alarm clock for about 5 min before class, cuz I could walk to class in about 3 min or so. So I got up and put my shoes and hat on and grabbed my books and headed for class, but I noticed something was wrong cuz there wasn't enough cadets walking around?? I got to class and put my hat on the peg outside class and opened the door and everyone was sitting down and staring at me, along with the prof. I saluted and said that "cadet Craigie reports late to class" everyone started laughing and as I looked at the clock I realized I was 59:50 late to class! That little mistake cost me 8 hours on the area, that I walked all in 1 day while all my classmates where on their 1 free weekend that yearlings get for the semester. I will never forget that Saturday for the rest of my life. I had a case of Coors on ice in my trash can back in my room so after my tours I could relax a bit. F1 was in Grant barracks behind Grant hall back then.

In the 70's we had summary punishments called Extra Drills (ED) at Duntroon. You could do them in the morning at 0600 or in the evening at 1700. More serious penalties included SOL (Stoppage of Leave): no sport, no booze, no leave. You did ED's in the morning and the evening plus Check Parades in Blues Patrol at 1000, 1300, 1900 and 2200. The worst was CB's (Confinement to Barracks). It was a combination of ED's and SOL but you did all your ED's in full combat kit including pack. The drill was strict and not a slack looking stroll as it appears here in the USMA video (with all due respect) and was commanded by a Drill Sergeant. Any mistake with your gear could just earn you more ED's. At morning ED's in winter the ice would crack under our hobnailed boots. Great fun!

However I think there's a difference between punishment and purposely making one's life unnecessary difficult just for the sake of "tradition".
