How many players do you think Ashes of Creation will have during its first six months?

Ashes of Creation is an open world MMORPG set in a fantasy environment where you can choose different classes and races to adventure through with your friends. Intrepid Studios is the developer behind the game. They’re technically an indie studio, but their creative director Steven Sharif has a clear vision for his video game: Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Game. He wants to put the massive back in MMO. Exploring dungeons, griding for gear, crafting armor/weapons, learning new spells, and competing in large scale PvP battles. High end PvE such as raids will mainly occur in the open world. Bosses will spawn and roam through the land. Are YOU ready to enter the world of Verra?

i was an idiot who didnt jump in when i had a chance between 2012 and 2014 since thats when i got my first proper gaming pc and i can say as a 22 year old right now, i am not just stoked for ashes but determined to make it my chance to play what i stupidly didnt oh so long ago now.... honestly i also will say that it may just be a feeling but i feel like its not that people dont care for being social in games anymore but that no games reward it and reward the opposite which has made most non hardcore players leave games all together and that ashes might be the time when they FINALLY come back and we see not just a resurgence but a renascence where people finally flip the fucking bird to big corpos who are trying to kill off the creative integrity of games so they can make more more for a cheaper price.....

4:20 there are a few things those who arent convinced it will last arent thinking about namely being that we can assume that each node will have AT LEAST 1 main dungeon, world event, and main world boss... if we then pull that over the 76 nodes and consider the LITENY of smaller dungeons and world bosses and the smaller events around the world AND the *heavy* player driven content between guilds and players being the majority of content, thats like having 76 expansions ready AT LAUNCH and thats not to mention that they could do things like hold player votes on whether old nodes that have already been maxed out and than later destroyed could than have their MAIN content swapped out with new stuff NOW if the community wants it or later after some of the newer players at that point in time still want to get access to the old content AND the number of nodes that can reach max level will likely be high enough that there will be A LOT of main quest content avalible at any given time nevermind that the servers currently are projected to be at least 10,000 player serves and the amount of world space is 1.2km sq.... like the sheer MOUNTAINT of things to do will be so massive and so easily expanded and swapped out that legitimately, there wont be a worry especially since leveling and getting gear is also something that will take a while and leveling nodes is also in the same boat so it really will be like nothing else out there.

I loved New World, on launch. Turned on pvp and was trying to do some faction quests, or general quests. The adrenaline of seeing a higher level player, on enemy faction and diving into the bushes and praying he didn't see me was great! Or going into a bushes and trying to snipe a player from afar with my musket. Sure it wore off after awhile and the game felt like it had no content beyond that, which is when i quit. I miss the old days of Archeage and when people would camp choke points for trade runs, or random pvp fights with pirates in seas. Thats why i'm looking forward to Ashes of creation, i hope they will bring some of what i liked from those games, in a healthy and playable package

Almost every mmo before WoW gained player bases over time it wasnt until they shift in design for MMO which went from building a world for players to exsist in to gamificating the genre where the game shifted to design for the player instead before anything else. WoW was also doing this over time making thing convient for the players and as they added more and more the player base dropped. The shift from building world to building games that were convenient to players did exactly what you would expect to the genre and made it like every other game popular at launch and drops off. older games were different they made a world players got invested in and by doing so retained player base while building more.

i've been playing MMOs casually for like 8 or 9 years ago.and know i won't be part of those who are lucky to play the game on its release date because of life responsibilities. but when i do i really want to part of your crew. keep up the good work bro

Personally, I think the MMO community has become a bit too jaded due to the current MMO offerings. The last I played an MMO was WoW Warlords of Draenor. I lost interest back then, sort of touched a few others but never actually got into them. Then, one day out of the blue I see this video about ho hum... another MMO... oh joy. In this video (I think it was the AoC Kickstarter, even), Steven mentions that he's played MMO's and got upset with how the genre was evolving so decided to make his own. THAT got my interest and as I investigated more and more, I eventually got hooked and cooked on the copium. Saying that, I believe that there are a whole lot of people keeping an eye on AoC. Everything from their dev updates to all the various content creators' material. People who want a good MMO to play, who would've made their own MMO if they could afford it. Other people who, like myself, can understand the "if you want it done right, do it yourself" concept and will support someone who's doing just that with regards to one of our favorite pastimes. I think most of these people will be there on launch day and some will be checking "the feeds" to see how the launch went before making the final decision to commit. To put it down to number; I won't be surprised if launch day sees 6M subscriptions and then it just climbs. The growth might taper off, but I don't think there will be a decline. Yes, the copium is flowing strong, thank you very much.

One core premise that Ashes breaks, is that every player will have a similar experience. The node system alone kills that idea, allowing new paths through old tropes. I do wish they had fixed gathering though. Oh boy, let's bang on these rocks again. The excitement is overwhelming.

What about holding back on opening new servers too fast. It will mean log in delays for sure but should reduce the problem of a server population drops that force mergers. Slowly increase the number of servers. Lock servers to new players say at 110% capacity to keep wait time minimal. As a new server is opened, whole guilds may move that could now open up formerly locked servers to new players while planting organized guilds with some experience on new servers. Finding yourself on an empty server for a game designed for player interaction is a sad experience having gone through this myself in Everquest many years ago. Bustling cities are ghost towns and the game becomes lonely.

what the devs and people in charge say sounds like they rly have their head together and are aware of the downfall of other mmos. what worries me is that everything looks polished but it lacks its "its that game" look. wow, lol, fortnite, albion, all these games have their own distinct look that is cartoonish but recogniziable and is a big part of setting themselfs apart from all the other games. for me ashes lacks this vibe and that worries me. its not like ashes completly lacks it as it is the first game having this polished season changing system and everything seems to be a cut above what we are used to: dustdevils, wind, trees falling etc. i pray this is enough to crystalize themselfs out and have its own vibe. i genuinly think good systems and combat will not be able to carry a game if the vibe is missing. maby its could squeeze by on having some amazing soundtrack, everybody can think to some wow ambient music that was completly hitting the ball out of the park with the vibe it created. i have high hopes for ashes and i can only hope it works out

I wish they could do server merges by an expansion event which somehow shrinks the continents and go from 2 continents to 4. So everyone retains the same basic balance.
