We literally have an entire youtube channel that got its start by showcasing Slayer 6P, and we're talking about a character with an infamous 6P entering a game filled with infamous 6Ps. How was this not mentioned? But yeah, they better make that hitbox every bit as absurd as it is in previous installments. Yeah yeah they can "normalize" the hurtbox or whatever, but that hitbox needs to stay massive. I swear if they make Slayer 6P lose to Testament 6P.... I have never played slayer but here's an idea. big bang upper is the animation for his standard dust attack. using the sway and inputting dust gives you an instant fully charged dust attack. he would have more scaling on this version though.

My main concern, and this has a lot to do with affecting the links, is his frame data. Everyone in strive sort of has universal rules when it comes to frame data on their normals. The only plus button they tend to have is cS. So in order for slayer to get any kind of links off he will need to remain plus on most of his main normals. 5k, 2k, fS being the main ones being +3 +4 and +6 respectively in xrd. He really needs this cause it’s what enables him to wait for a reaction while pressuring and start getting in his opponents head for good counter hit opportunities. It also helps with dandy step frame traps/frame traps in general.

You can have a link-driven game where none of your buttons are plus on block, because if they're blocking you're not comboing anyway. Street Fighter 6 has basically no plus frames on block but the combos work because the frame advantage on hit is good enough that you can link.

@@kevingriffith6011 ok sure but this isn’t street fighter we’re talking about. It’s not like they’re gonna make each one of Slayer’s moves have the hit stun of a heavy attack. Plus his frame traps would be non existent outside of maybe under pressure. He can have plus buttons and he’d still be a mid tier in strive.

@@THE_BIG_OL_UNIT Never said he wouldn't have plus frames, just that a link character with limited plus on block was possible. Would it raise issues in Guilty Gear? Absolutely, but that's what we have game designers for: To find solutions to gameplay-related problems. Maybe he'll have plus frames as compensation for his lack of gatlings. Maybe invincible start-up special moves will be a bigger part of his pressure gameplan. We don't know.

With so many characters getting heavily redesigned (Elphelt, jacko, Johnny), I’m definitely curious for what they’ll do to an already fundamentally simple character like Slayer.

@@kevingriffith6011the issue is with how guilty Gear programs it's attacks. Unlike sf which has hitstun and blockstuj values basically unique to each move, guilty Gear works off an attack level system. For example in strive and attack level 3 move will always have 19 frames of hitstun and 16 frames of blockstun on a grounded opponent. The hitstop levels are also constant. And iirc arc sys doesn't usually make moves have more or less recovery on block meaning that you can't really make it minus on block AND plus enough on hit to allow him to link it into other moves

13:05 I don't think Slayer is going to have BDC special moves in Strive. I 100% believe that he's going to have SOME means to make all of his special moves invulnerable on start up, but I don't think that they're going to lock such an important part of Slayer's kit behind that kind of an execution barrier. It's the same on almost all of the returning characters in Strive: Arcsys tends to trim the fat from the movelists and make the core appeal/game plan of the character more accessible to a beginner player. They might just give him a resource meter or something to balance it, but he will probably have them.

if strive has a buffer the link combos won't be an issue because the game will literally time the moves for you. it's how sf6 works: you can spam the button and it will connect (most of the time)

Dash cancels are an iconic part of his kit historically, but we’ve seen the reworkings that some old characters have gotten in Strive. Dash cancels were a weird technical thing they decided to keep in the series, but they’ve squashed most of those old systems, like Faust’s FD drill cancel. My guess is they will give him a forward command dash (mappa punch followup) with some strike invincibility on it, possibly adding it to dandy step as well, but still being vernable to low/throw. They know they’ve got a lot of people waiting on Slayer, so I’m guessing it will be more A.B.A update than Testament rework.

Footloose Journey was my jam, shit would carry me across the screen from one end to the other while being a absolute boss threat. Hope Slayer shows up in Strive similar to his set in +R, just for the additional Dandy Step that would land you behind the opponent instead for that oh so fun gotcha.

I think the main thing that they might drastically change with slayer (at least xrd slayer) would be wallslumps on K pilebunker. Don't know how they'd implement that with the wallbreak mechanic, and they probably don't want to bring back pilebunker loops because strive damaging combos coming into strive is just a tod.

I didn't play Slayer enough to be very good with him in +R, but man I'm going to miss all his Forcebreak moves. Big Bang Upper is just cool, being able to get Pilebunker's counterhit wall splat mid-combo on a normal hit was neat, and being able to use Dandystep follow ups quicker than normal was good too.
