How Your Body Creates Energy | CoQ10 Benefits | Mitochondrial Energy Support | Optimize Performance - Thomas DeLauer:
CoenzymeQ10 is also known as ubiquinone. What it is, is a co-factor or a coenzyme that allows the conversion of food to energy to actually occur. CoenzymeQ10 is present in what is called the mitochondria. If you've watched my other videos before you know I talk about the mitochondria a lot. The mitochondria is the energy powerhouse inside of a cell. It's literally the motor. It's where everything happens. Without CoenzymeQ10, we're never able to take the food that we eat, the proteins, the fats, and the carbohydrates, and convert it into what is called ATP, adenosine triphosphate. That is what gives us the energy for our muscles to contract, for our brain to work, and for every single cell in our body to have energy. Now usually CoenzymeQ10 is found within the heart, the liver, the kidneys, and the pancreas, but it's also found in smaller amounts throughout the rest of the body, including our muscle tissue.
So for those of you that work out or you're trying to get in shape, you might find that CoenzymeQ10 is very, very important to not only your performance, but also your recovery and your overall fat loss and muscle building. So once CoenzymeQ10 goes from being ubiquinone, where it actually starts using the nutrients that you consume to convert them into energy, it turns into something known as ubiquinol, so it slightly changes. The funny thing is, it's called ubiquinol because of its ubiquitous properties. CoenzymeQ10 does a lot of different things within the body. It doesn't just help energy processing and conversion. It also has powerful antioxidant components. I'll get to those in just a second. You might be wondering why should someone take CoenzymeQ10, or why should they be aware of it. The fact is, after age 25 or 30, we start to lose our levels of CoenzymeQ10. Our mitochondria starts to become less efficient.
So, it's not just age related decline though. A lot of times we'll see any kind of nutritional deficiency, generally speaking things like B vitamin deficiencies, but also if you have any kind of diseased state within the body that might affect neurological function and might actually affect the electron function within your body. But, one that might be applicable to you, is if you're working out or you're moving a lot, you could actually have a tissue depletion of CoenzymeQ10.
Again, it'll all make sense in a second, but it comes down to how much your body has to use that CoQ10 to recover or generate energy. It only has so much and it starts to decline. You can only replenish it at so fast of a rate. When you understand that your body's using this CoenzymeQ10 for energy, again, it all makes sense. So let's talk about how it works for a second. You see, you have inside your mitochondria an inner membrane and an outer membrane. Inside the inner membrane is really where the power happens, literally where we actually create the ATP.
So a lot of times when we consume proteins, fats, and carbs, they get inside the outer membrane but they don't get inside the inner membrane without the help of CoenzymeQ10. So what CoenzymeQ10 does first, is it allows the fatty acids and allows the glucose from the food that we've consumed to actually be accepted by the mitochondria. It's sort of a gate keeper without the CoenzymeQ10, those nutrients can't get in and ever get converted to energy. But, what's even more powerful is how it creates a gradient. Now, let me talk about this from an electron side of things. Whenever we have energy occurring within the body, we're taking food and we're converting it into energy which means there's an electron process. Our bodies are finely tuned electrical machines.
So you have energy from movement. Remember back in early physics and early chemistry we were always talking about potential energy and kinetic energy? Well when you look at how a proton moves, it creates kinetic energy. This creates a proton gradient, which literally creates energy. That allows the actual conversion of true energy that we've consumed into energy that is adenosine triphosphate, energy that we burn when we flex our muscles, when we work out, or when we're just using our brain, or even just standing still. So that is how important CoenzymeQ10. It is the absolute maestro of the electrical orchestra. But it goes further than that.

I learned about Coenzyme Q10 when I was in high school over 25 years ago. I was on the swim team and I also had asthma. I couldn’t go through a whole practice without stopping to use my inhaler. When I read about COQ10, I got some and took it before every practice. I not only didn’t need the inhaler, but I was able to work much harder in practice. It was a GODSEND!

More info. Every GNC in my area has closed due to covid. So i was at walmart looking for creatine, i had been out for over a week and was noticing a decline in my performance. Walmart did not have creatine so i got the CoQ10. I still cant find creatine, but CoQ10 FEELS like it has a similar effect to creatine (it's obviously different). I felt back to my normal strength and endurance literally the next day. This could be a coincidence because you know some weeks you just feel weak. But because i was expecting it to be BS i feel like this is not a placebo. Take this info for what it is.

Idk if it because of the CoQ10 but I do remember when I was taking it daily and exercising regularly I had insane results when it came to fat loss and lowering blood pressure. My blood pressure went from 160/106 to 136/90. Went from 215lbs to 189lbs (I’m 5”11) and waist measured from 38” to a 31”. And I was able to achieve this in about 5 months!!!

Hey Thomas. Dr. Berry put out some really interesting information on resistance starches based off of some experiments he did. I strongly feel( and I hope everyone else does as well) that you should do another video on some more detailed information on this matter. Hey Thomas, thanks for another great video. Truly appreciated. I have a question to ask which you maybe could adress in one of your Q&A videos in the future. In one of your videos- I think- you once said (and showed a graph) that if one goes low carb/keto the endogenous glycogen production ramps up, reaches a certain level and stays there. Even if one then east more protein then necessary the body doesn't go crazy and starts producing glycogen on masse. Is that right? Thank you in advance! Take care.

I used to take CoQ10 daily but then it got so popular the priced literally increased by a factor of 10! So I stopped taking it about five years ago. The doctor who recommended it said it might help (might) with my small vessel disease. I diagnosed about 10 years ago. Sadly, stopping taking it may or may not have had an impact, as I had a great big stroke a couple of years ago. But then the damage I've done to my body in terms of food, is horrific. I can't blame anyone but myself and my own ignorance. I wish you had had a channel maybe 40 years ago (before the net!) :)

I've also read that it's good for controlling your high blood pressure instead of taking medication for it but it's hard to find what's the correct dosage I've read between 100 mg and 300 grams. Also the types I guess some types are better than others what are your thoughts on that?

I would take 200 mg a day and it gave me heart palpitations.... After a month of taking it.... Lowered it to 100mg and I've never felt better....

Hey Thomas, would you mind, in these types of videos just spending 20 secs telling us, best time to take the "Vitamin/mineral" in subject, and quantity if taken as a supplement, as jusding from your other videos could be vital in order to maximize its efficiency, please??

Hi Thomas. Thanks for your great content. Between advice from yourself & Dr Jason Fung, I’m seeing great results. I was wondering if “C8” MCT Oil is much superior to regular MCT oil. Some sources claim this but information seems scarce. What’s the difference between the 2? Thanks

+Barry Rice, having read Dr. Bruce Fife's book, [based on 175 Scientific Research Papers], MCT is composed of C8 & C10 (as opposed to straight coconut oil that has all fractions). Benefits here are that these (c8, c10), readily cross the blood brain barrier, hence why Bullet Proof coffee has a product...

Starry Night Thanks a million. But my question wasn’t MCT vs coconut oil. It was Regular MCT vs C8 MCT.

I have been losing muscles and energy since I started on statins in end 2019. I was in great shape before that. I am 82 years. Should I start on CoQ10. I have no BP problem and I never smoked.

Hi Thomas. Thanks for the video. My husband and I came across a supplement that has 50mg ubiquinol CoQ10 and 10mg of PQQ. We tried the supplement but it raised our blood pressure too much. I am 40 years old and have been on Keto diet last two years. I never had any blood pressure problem in my life before. I was wondering if the supplement itself was the issue (which it has other ingredients: 150mg of Gynostemma extract and Tocotrienols) or the way we used was not proper. Thanks, Ozge.

@@vegbeth you're welcome. I bought on Amazon and later I saw few more people complained about the same issue. Other CoQ10 supplements on the market seem ok though, at least in terms of not rising the blood pressure.

Based on the study quoted, 1200mg is 4 pills of the 300mg strength. Seems like a lot based on cost.
