In this clip, Howard Hewett talked about Micky Free and Delisa Davis joining Shalamar after the original group disbanded. Following Shalamar's fifth album with the new members, Howard went solo. He detailed putting together a ridiculous deal in hopes that Elektra wouldn't sign him but much to his surprise, they agreed to all the terms of his deal.

My Mom used to kill that first solo album. I commit was on the turntable by breakfast time. Great album. The Whispers Rock Steady and Luther’s album came out back then as well. Great times. The 80’s was boss!

Shalamar had the potential to be a major supergroup. I got into radio in 1982 and was able to see both the separation with Jody and was able to help promote both Dancing in the Sheets, Dead Giveaway, Over and Over and all the "post-Jeffrey/Jody Era with Micki And Delisha . Excellent!

One of the most underrated voices in black music, nobody can sing like Howard Hewitt, I have heard the baddest black Brothers in my 68 years on this planet and he is in the top 5, his only problem was material, I could have wrote songs that fit his style and trust me, he'd be right up their with Marvin, Michael, Phillip Baley, Eddie Kendrick, unfortunately for him these labels like Sony, Motown, missed it, I would have jumped on him like Electra did, they just didn't bring in writers for his style, dude should be right up their with all the guys I mentioned, and to be honest he had a more pure voice than most of them.

It's amazing how all these groups have so many issues behind the scenes! I think Howard's voice is great! However, of he told me I would never be sh*t without them, I would never speak to his ass again either. So glad Jody's solo group blew up!

.....and JUMPING INTO SPLITS.....then pulling himself up (via his own weight). Remember, it was: hip surgery, spine, knees, ankles.....that's a lot of painkillers. And when the doctor no longer prescribes it....a person like Prince turned to the black market. Sad. But, I'll never know what it feels like to have my hips, spine, knees and ankles in excruciating pain. Sheila E. confirmed it, though.

@@brownbagz I saw him in Baltimore, Maryland....July, 1997. It was the "Emancipation" tour. I was living in Washington, D.C. But, my friend (and former Howard professor) said he's gonna be playing in Baltimore!! Dem tickets sold-out, in like....30 minutes🤣 We were in the upper-level....until the intermission. Then we stole some REALLY good seats from a couple, while they were in the bathroom 😏 We were jamming to "Sleep Around"....until the couple returned and kicked us out. We stood in the aisle, for the remainder of the second half. Prince was 39 years old. So, this was before his body was restricted via physical damage. He was doing all kinds of splits, jumps....crawling across the stage and wiggling his ass...etc. Also, he wasn't converted to the Jehovah's Witnesses (yet). So, he played many of his older tracks. But, JESUS Prince is short WITH heels. So he can't be taller than 4' 11".

Unfortunately all that high heel wearing is what caused Prince's injuries; which lead to his fentanyl/pain killer addiction and ultimately his death. This is the part of the story that's not funny.
