Doc, thanks for this video, and to you and your tree man for an deep dive on tree removal. I live in a heavily wooded area and it's very helpful to know and understand why tree removal costs what it costs. The transformation of your property and what you have done to your new home place is just astounding.

20 years experience felling trees. It depends on the location. Health of tree. Size. Species. Hazard or not. Power lines. Access to tree. Climb or crane

Used Porterfield a few years ago to get a big pine taken down. $800 to have it cut down and cut up. Seemed reasonable to me. Growing up in a family of loggers, I know how to cut trees, and cut most of the ones on my property that I was clearing. This particular one was too big for my comfort level so I called them. Friendly and fast. Money well spent.

Since I'm in tree service also, a large part of our cost is just the insurance. Plus another big factor not mentioned is where the tree is located. If it's really hard to get to, like right over a house or structure, or even on a really steep hill away from anywhere we can get a bucket truck too. Knowing how hard to remove it based on the time situation also makes a difference in price.

I had 25 taken out for 6k. I agree with many of the comments, it depends on equipment used and techniques used to take them down. All my trees were big pines no climbing or bucket truck. BTW DOC I'm your daughters next door neighbor.

I was charged 2400 this year for a big elm tree in the front yard, no removal. They did move it to the back for me.

The professional tree services make safety the number one priority. There is of course a cost for that. My personal experience has been that whenever I hire a good contractor I learn something valuable and what I learn is generally worth more than the extra they charge to do the work correctly and safely. Properties are investments - A cheap tree cutter can be very expensive.

Doc, I really enjoy your videos, and your background music choice. I have noticed something, you may already be aware of, those of us that get your emails for early release videos, don't get taken to youtube directly and can watch your videos and have no way of liking it. I usuall wait till it shows up in my youtube feed. Living The Dream...

Okay tell me if I'm wrong please my neighbor when I was growing up used to take wood chips from a tree service two bales of hay and just enough dirt to bind it and he used to cover it with a black tarp and make compost he raised big giant beds of earthworms that he sold to the Bass Shops in our area so what I was curious about why you would not take the wood chips and pile them up and use those for compost just curious sir no more about it than I do

Those with a huge overhead charge more. It doesn’t mean they are better or safer. Just that they need to make up for all that money they spent or the payments for that equipment. I had a tree like that big one taken down for $1,000 by a 2 man crew with no bucket truck or driven machinery. One day. All manual. Only thing powered were the chainsaws.

Haha, I was literally just wondering this. We are about to build in GA and there are 1 or 2 trees we might need to remove. Thank you for the video. Question wood chips: Will they just leave them on site for you to use? Or will that impact the price?
@Mxtraveler
@Mxtraveler 6 ай бұрын
I’ve been told they are not like mulch. They will actually suck up moisture and minerals and smother the plants if you use it like mulch. Mulch is aged and “cooked” to get it to the stage where you can use it.

Leaving chips can be cheaper. Just know that fresh mulch that is not "cultured" can draw bugs.

No, that is not done generally. Wood is worth practically nothing; some tree companies have to pay to dump it. Trees often cost thousands of dollars to remove because of the expensive equipment, expensive skilled labor, and very expensive insurance. If you manage to find a firewood guy, he likely won't have any insurance and won't be too interested in branches/brush. If he drops a tree on your house, he might run away and you'll have a hard time collecting money for the damages, if you're sucessful at all.
