I saw a post on Oahu Weekend Hikers facebook group about a hidden stairs at the top of Kamehame ridge so off I went!!
Just follow the ridge from the Makapuu lookout (careful parking there since cars do get broken into) all way to Kamehame ridge.
Along the way are beautiful views of Sea Life Park, Rabbit Island, and the Makapuu Puka!
I found the stairs not much problem and it was worth the effort!! Neat having a stairs just lead nowhere!! One section has wooden steps so you have to be careful with that since they are falling apart!
The reason we went from Makapuu ridge to Kamehame is there is a guard at the top of Kamehame drive who is telling hikers its illegal to go there since there have been vandals tagging the FAA buildings at the top.

Can't reply direct but Gypsy Moon, this is the ridge that starts on the street opposite of the makapuu lighthouse trail and heads towards sea life park. same area, different mountain.

sure is!! you get a great birds eye view of it. And on sunny days you can see a few hang gliders sailing around. really makes nice pictures!

Rachel if you look at the very end of my videos, I post up the time it took and distance. This one took 4 1/2 hours round trip. There are shorter ways (up kamehame ridge) that are way quicker but they have a guard to stop you from going up there...

What is the guard there for? I once came out in a military area and got taken in to see the base security chief for trespassing. He let me go. Most guards are nice guys. Anyway, thanks for the video, I liked it. I knew there were goats up there, could hear them from a long time ago.

dobitel9 The guards are there because some people were vandalizing the FAA stuff on the ridge or just trespassing where they shouldnt.We are losing more trails each year..

Makapuʻu lighthouse is on the opposite side, before they crossed the road

How do you know what elevation you are at?

i carry a garmin gps unit with me that tells elevation. you can also download topo maps that show it too. thanks for watching.

Thanks, you guys are great, keep up the good work on your videos! By the way, when we tried to go on this hike, there was a police woman sitting in a police car right across the street looking toward the fence and signs that said, "PRIVATE PROPERTY" "NO HIKING". So, we did not go.

i couldnt tell if was a goat, a sheep or a mouflon . there is a big herd of them up there.

@@howzitboy Goat was amazing...btw, it looked like you were heading towards Waimanalo, but then the last shots looked like the valley (Kalama?) that's behind the Hawaii Kai marina..? Just discovered you channel...amazing videos. AMAZING!
