How fast of a signal do you need to do the fine calibration?

Still just 10 MHz but it's delivered through a Time Interval Calibrator. I have no idea if those are easy to acquire or not (eBay is broken for me right now).

Those look like nice counters, I had a quick look on eBay and those things aren't cheap... dodgy looking ones are around $600!

You were right too - There are a couple of caps on the supply that need to be replaced because they're bulging. Will have to get those parts and replace them. Thanks for the heads up.

Why after calibration, with the reference signal, the counter doesn't read 10 meg?

I wasn't really clear on this - Sorry about that. The reason is that I haven't calibrated the internal oscillator for the counter. If I was going to use this counter as is, then I'd use the oscillator adjustment screw on the rear of the unit to tune it in to read 10 MHz. However, I'm installing a High Stability Oven (Option 010) clone that I bought from GerrySweeney.com. This replaces the internal oscillator with a more accurate and stable one. When I calibrate that you'll see the unit measure 10 MHz (though these counters will flash the last digit just due to the architecture).
