When I was a kid growing up, my Dad was big into RC flying and everything was nitro. Early memories are watching him bench running motors in the shed, trying not to lose his fingers! 😂 Around here, even though it’s pretty rural, running a nitro car would irritate the heck out of the neighbours, so although I’m not planning to get one anytime soon it is interesting seeing them so thanks for the look at yours! I’ve got an FTD DR8, which is pretty quick when running on 6S, I’ve lost a few steering servos after disappearing under the bottom of the hedge… 😂

They're not subtle, are they? I've gotta pick my timing here. We do have neighbours, though they're not exactly close by. Still, consideration doesn't hurt and I'm keeping my running to late morning and only here and there. Nothing regular, though there are mowers, tractors, chainsaws, dozers and the like filling the air most days somewhere in the nearby hills! I still like electric the best, but running nitro has been an experience alright! Cheers

Awesome car! I ended up getting the older Truggy 4.6 still a fantastic car! Currently have 3 nitros, Savage 25, Tmaxx 2.5 as well as the truggy. Still have more brushless beasts then nitros but it’s great having both to play with, definitely pros & cons to each. Great video 👍

Cool! This makes me wonder if nitro might be having a comeback. A few other RC youtubers I follow started making nitro videos over the past year, which inspired me to get one again. They are just as dirty and temperamental as I remember... but still fun!

@@RCTNT rtr engines are pretty slow, but once you try a racing engine the power is plenty, though still not silly powerful like 6S. Though when I do run electric 1/8 I usually stick to 4s

I used to love nitro cars. I moved to an area now that has less open space to run them without disturbing a lot of people. I converted my old Ofna (Hobao) buggy to brushless with a max8 and it just rips. Runs perfect on 4S and will nearly endo doing wheelies with 6S 😂. Great job tuning this one. They can be finicky buggers, but the noise and smell are great. Looks like this HPI flies nice too. Stays pretty flat in the air unless that was more you controlling throttle than the car 🙂. Air control can be hard with nitro since they're a little slower to respond than brushless
@RCTNT
@RCTNT Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I've leaned it out a bit more since and it goes hard. Has good air authority so far. There's enough acceleration to bring the nose up and those brakes pull it straight down if needed. I suspect I'm getting the best of nitro in this thing, it's been really straightforward so far!

@@RCTNT I've had good luck with mine. Back in the day my buddy had a massive monster truck thing.. maybe when Duratrax still made vehicles? Even with us having car knowledge we struggled to keep it running for long. I think when the fuel line seals well and the carb holds tune, the engine will stay happy :)

Nitro is a lot of fun. My best experience with a nitro was Traxxas 3.3 Remo. It always started and ran well. I sold it, but I kind of regret it. I today's world the major for nitro is the cost of fuel.

@@RCTNT In my opinion one of the best short youtube series for taking an RTR Nitro and converting to a racer was done by AMain about 3years ago. It was called something like Converting an MP9 Readyset to a 1/8 racing buggy. I learned a lot about nitro. One thing you may want to consider is a starting box. Have fun.

@@RCTNT I had a couple of 8th scale buggies and the pull starter can be very frustrating at times. The if the sting or the pull starter itself breaks you are stuck. You can often pick them used since nitro has fallen out favor. I have also found on surface with loose dirt the nitro often grips better initially because they have a clutch that has to engage.

Yup, there's nothing like a nitro car....my very very very first foray into the hobby back in the 60's was testors .049 planes and buggies. Now I have a couple of onroad cars.....now they aren't as easy as electrics but there's no waiting for batteries to charge, just fuel and go and if you keep track of your fuel, you never have to do a re-start with the igniter. Back in the 90's, nitro was much faster than electrics but now with all the lipos and different motors and stuff even brushed they are (I'd say) on par but you don't get the visceral input of a nitro with electric. But by the same token, you can go too far and become a nuisance. KT had a fuel gasoline ones with big 2 strokes with expansion chambers and they were INSANELY loud....like twice as loud as a chainsaw......

I totally get the appeal. There are brushless motors for 1/8 trucks that output 20HP+ but nitro is really something eh

Hello brother from the other side of the earth! It's the French guy living in Spain. I have a problem and question for you, since I saw you running cars on a beach. As long as I don't go in the sea water, what are your thoughts on driving RC cars on the sand on the beach? Am I going to ruin and corrosion everything? Or do you have recommendations maybe? I'd love to drive my Typhon but I'm a bit scared of ruining everything. Thanks for your advice, and may the torque be with you, always. Peace
@RCTNT
@RCTNT Жыл бұрын
G'day, slow cars could be fine as you don't get sand all through it. Faster cars will spray sand through everywhere and moving parts will suffer, bearings in particular. You can rinse thoroughly with fresh water and lubricate things after the run, but corrosion will be an issue over time, yes. For most, it's not worth it. But sometimes it is - the beach is a really fun place to run!

How’d you strap that LiPo on?
@RCTNT
@RCTNT Жыл бұрын
Ah its a bit sketchy! I need to get around to mounting a proper battery box or tray for it, but from memory, I cut a small gap under the lid to run a Velcro strap then used that. Another way to do it would be to unbolt the box, lay a long strap under it, bolt it back on then secure the battery on top. Really, I need to replace it with a better tray or bigger box. From experience, I've found I want about a 2200mah 2s lipo as that'll last 2+ tanks with the better steering servo. AAs would be lousy in this role.

Yeah, that's an issue. If you're just bombing around for an hour, they can get stuffed but if you're buzzing around for 4 or 5 you can kind of see their point, even I would get tired of WWAAAAAAAAAAAwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaWAAAAAAAAAAA all day. I bought a house way back in the woods and there was a punker with a honda cr125 he used to rip up and down the access road all day....even coming into my driveway to do donuts. He was finally stopped by the cops: tickets for no helmet, no licence, no insurance, unsafe vehicle, speeding, and a slew of other charges and they took the bike.

This is gonna sound dumb,obviously your in Australia what is the likelihood of being bitten by snakes out in grass areas ,I'm in uk,we don't have anything like that ,oh yeah I just bought one of these
@RCTNT
@RCTNT Жыл бұрын
Gday chris, that's not a dumb question. There are sneks around here from October through to March and when I'm in grassy or rocky areas I'm stomping and making noise and have eyes scanning constantly. We have numerous dangerous ones around here and I see them often. However, if you're loud and alert, you'll motivate them to move away before you surprise one when you're right on top of it - that's when bites happen. I have had a tiger snake within about 30cm of my face one time in a recent summer here. I had squatted right down to try to fix a sprinkler and movement from under the tarp next to me drew my eyes up. Big old tiger snake had to come right toward me to get out from under the tarp so he could escape - I was too close for comfort. He didn't attack - tigers are not good to be bitten by, but they're kinda dumb and not generally aggressive. He just wanted to get away. Sometimes, they'll go between your legs to get away. Browns on the other hand, they can be grumpy and a bit more bitey. But overall if we're loud on the ground in the warmer months, they'll shy away and you won't see them. If you're sneaky and quiet in a strategic manner (ie. safely doing it, not just ninja-ing your way through long grass) you'll see many around here. PS. enjoy your new truggy. It's great!
