James Rockford why ? Look at Picasso for exemple, he started by mastering the technique and made it totally perfect and then he developed his own style The change is not so drastic here but it seems Hahn's style is changing, though her technique is still perfect

My late father used to hum parts of the 3rd movement, and I never knew what it was. I only found out by accident after he died - now I have found the finest way to conjure up memories of him. Thanks to all the players here - but Hilary Hahn - I see you in a new light.

Hilary Hahn's greatest talent is the ability to give every note and detail of a piece its due. She never overlooks anything for the sake of passion or drama. And, yet, she never wants for that drama either, because as she plays a piece so straight the piece's own drama shines that much brighter.

The Frankfurt radio symphony orchestra is one of the finest I have ever heard. The musicians are totally focused on what they are doing, and how to improve what they are doing every day. This is a rare attitude even amongst the leading orchestras but inevitable if you want to stay at the top. So good luck to your father that he has this tremendous opportunity. And under Andrés Orozco-Estrada, the orchestra is climbing new heights with every project. So much love and passion for the best of all music!

If you can imagine growing up with your mother playing this piece in the living room, you can imagine my childhood. And she continued playing till she couldn't play to the highest level, when she was 96. Now when I hear the violin, it's liking hearing my mother in the room, singing to me through the violin music she so masterfully played. It brings me joy, and tears to my eyes, and an a heavy heart knowing I shall never see her again.

I honestly never understand why some people dislike her playing because of a lack of emotion. Are they intimidated merely for the music being played almost perfectly? Are they confusing her music with her supposedly "robotic" stage presence? I will never get it. Each of her notes is full to the brim, to perfection of which I can bawl my eyes out, completely overwhelmed by the eargasm..., and people will go on to say that she sounds like a machine. Yes, if a machine can make me cry like a little bitch then I will take it over any human musician anyday

Hilary a “machine? No. The influence of the media harping on robotics and AI may be seeping into the zeitgeist. But these critics overlook her body language and subtleties that need no excessive facial expression. As a musician myself I see her capacity to concentrate on the music itself. Recently I read that we in this gory twenty first century have much to learn from 19th century composers like Bruch, like Mendelssohn. And it was finding Ms Hahn performing the Mendelssohn that awakened my core being. How can I keep writing folk-blues and rock and roll with the knowledge that a being as sublime as Hilary Hahn lives among us?

Pew TheBIind I wasn't making a new claim. I was just agreeing with and adding to your comment that facial expressions don't count. I did this to affirm your claim and to further your cause (i.e., educating the ignorant). As you may know, critiquing top musicians' physical movements (and their looks) is a big subgenre in the online classical music community. I'm more interested in hearing than seeing, so I wouldn't care if Ms. Hahn were dressed in tin foil and garbage bags and hanging upside down from a trapeze, as long as she were still able to produce the same audio output.

To some, perfection is a flaw, or something false. But this is real. How is it possible to produce such a beautiful, musical, shimmering sound without fuss and without thrashing around? Well look at her hands. Especially her left hand. A simple, unflustered, perfect position on nearly every note. Everything is balanced, inch perfect, with amazingly efficient movements. No drama, no scratching, no over-playing, no ugly sounds. Just pure unadulterated direct musicality delivered with disarming simplicity that hides years and years of fantastic training and musical intelligence. Just watching and listening to her is worth a hundred lessons.

My favorite moment in a performance full of favorite moments. This is definitely the best recording/video of this Bruch concerto that I've heard. @Woodland I think pop stars are victims of their own work, so to say. Most of them start out as teens, which is a vulnerable and still developmental age. Of course they are gonna become cocky if all they hear from 12 yo+ "wow you are so good and talented" - doesnt matter if they play pop or classic, the surroundings influence the human. And if a young violinist is always told "you are the best there is!" he will act like it and become a cocky btch.
