I had to tip mine five times to get the oil out, the sixth time only a few drips. It does seem that oil gets caught somewhere when trying to drain.

I ONLY do my cooking with recycled lawn mower oil. I like earthy, hearty foods and nothing gives you that extra flavor quite like lawn mower oil. On special occasions, you can even mix in just a touch of log splitter hydraulic oil. Good luck!

The oil level can be anywhere within the grid or cross-hatched area of the dip stick.

I always buy power equipment from the dealer, never from big box stores. I’m 70 years old and have never had an issue yet. I don’t trust workers with zero training to properly check the equipment before it’s sold.

It was delivered to my door, unopened and brand new in box. And I set it up myself. It shouldn't need any adjustments, and even the small engine dealer shouldn't be expected to remove the transaxle to check whether the hydrostatic fluid was topped off correctly.

Yea cause you never know when the engine is going to just start on its own.

@@righand When a lawn mower is laid on its side as shown in this video, a simple and inadvertent partial rotation of the exposed blade can start the engine. If that happens, even for a moment, those blades will immediately begin turning very rapidly and can obviously cause very serious injury. Removing the spark plug boot prevents that, and also helps prevent someone from starting the engine when they should not (e.g. before oil has been re-added).

@@censored7881 I will do me, I’m not being nasty. The speed the blade has to move to turn the mower over is far greater than the average joe can turn it by hand.

My brother just uses the hose. Not much sticks the the hose won't knock off he says. My Toro needs to be scrapped.

@Tony M I have a grass buster scraper, doesn't hurt anything but yea washing after your done mowing is a good idea.

I use the 45 degree side of an old wood deck baluster.

I use Gunk or Mo Deck lawn mower spray. Just spray underneath and hose the grass clippings off after done mowing. Reapply and redo the steps.

@@kennglee did you make a mess? Sounds like user error. I use the same oil pan I use for cars oil changes. Open cap, tip the mower. It's stupid simple.

It’s actually not too horrible. A drain plug on top of the deck usually just makes a giant mess on the top of the deck, drain plug underneath? Gotta block up the mower then try and take a drain plug out and catch the oil? I guess a vacuum extractor could be a better solution? Or just take the dipstick out and crank it on the side!

You’ll see blue smoke shooting from exhaust and the excess oil will weep from the air box and soak your air filter with oil

@@drepop803 I have a mid 90's HRA215SX which also has a drain plug underneath the mower. To use it of course you have to tip the mower on its side to remove the drain plug then lay it back down again to drain the oil which sometimes results in the catch pan being bumped because you can't see it and making a mess on the ground. When tipping it back to install the drain plug also easy to get some oil dribbling into the blade clutch mechanism. Draining the oil through the fill tube allows you see the oil coming out so its easy to adjust the catch pan before a mess is made. My new HRX217HY doesn't have a drain plug underneath thus why I said some do, some don't.
