The music sounds like it came from an Elder Scrolls game.

It is heartbreaking to see this level of environmental destruction to the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside. This, of course, is only a microcosm of the destruction this expensive and unnecessary project is causing with no tangible benefit to the local communities whose backyards are being destroyed for it and there is over 100 miles of this level of destruction between London and Birmingham.

Nice one, Karl. Every time I see those homes at 2:11, I feel sorry for the poor owners. No amount of compensation's ever going to make up for having to either put up with the noisy trains, or having to move away from your home. I get the need for HS2 (far too many don't), but the impact on nearby homes is very real.

Cheers, I understand what you mean. There are lots of properties up and down the line that were once in quiet countryside. I remember enjoying cycling up Marsh Lane in the past, not too distant past either. I also used to live in Walton Court and we could see the fields from our flat. We had no idea that a railway line would cross them in years to come.

About five years ago a new estate of houses was built near Sandbach (I live near there). The Crewe-Manchester line is about 20 feet away from the nearest house, and no houses are further away than about 50 yards. Yet all the houses sold. The 4-track line is open 24x7 and conveys both a frequent passenger service up to 125 mph plus freight trains. HS2 will not operate at night, although obviously there will be maintenance trains. No freights, which can really make the ornaments on the mantlepiece rattle ! So it is probably not as bad as you think, although it would obviously have been very quiet before. I suppose that is the point, people bought at Sandbach in the full knowledge of the railway line.

HS2 is an environmental disaster of epic proportions & Britain's biggest infrastructure mistake in half a century. Thankfully, the Eastern leg & the Golborne link have been scrapped & anyone with half a brain knows that "pausing" the B'Ham to Crewe line & Euston station for 2 years, really means cancelling altogether. Just this week, plans for the construction of the first 2 phases were given a red rating & deemed as "unachievable" by the government’s own Infrastructure & Projects Authority. The whole sorry project is in deep financial trouble & fingers crossed, the rest of this massive white elephant will never see the light of day.
