Thank you once again for what is a most interesting series of videos, documenting the changing face of the area as HS2 continues apace...

Genuinely awe inspiring to see it being buiyl. Cannot wait to ride on it and for the huge benefits to the capacity on the classic network

Great video footage Michael, you capture the scene so well in you videos, yet again I have to comment on the efforts being made by the contractors who seem to be aimlessly moving thousands of cubic metres of soil around what was England's green and pleasant land and building access roads and car parks but seem to have forgotten they are supposed to be building a railway. There is no way that for a simple two track railway that they need to do earthworks of this magnitude, it is simply unforgivable to do this much damage to create two 6ft ways. The money being wasted on access roads and car parks for site offices is also inexcusable when they will be abandoned and left to rot when the railway is eventually finished which at current rate will not be for decades. Brunel and the GWR and I quote "Received its enabling Act of Parliament on 31 August 1835 and ran its first trains in 1838 with the initial route completed between London and Bristol in 1841." that included all the stations en-route and terminus at London and Bristol and within 2 more years had built the entire Swindon works as well. With modern day machinery and materials HS2 should already have 50% of the track laid by now if they were any where near as competent as they claim to be.

Thank you for the August 2023 update - saved me a trip. It is great to see the progress powering ahead on the new spine railway for the country.

The western end of "the tunnel" would be really interesting to see. I presume that the western blast portal is less-advanced than the complete eastern portal.

There looks to be less progress on this part than there is between Kenilworth and Coventry Gap. The tunnel at Burton Green seems to be taking an age to construct considering it is sitting in an existing cutting. Great video though.

Having been around when a live branch line ran through that cutting. Plus walking the track bed after the line closed. I remember the cutting as both deep & narrow. I have a feeling that it was only single track.

But Mother Nature, aided by replanting, will have this back to green within a season. The planting scheme for HS2 is inspiring.

@@mikehindson-evans159.. "replanting"? .. are you aware that HS2 Ltd have already incurred numerous fines for multiple breaches of environmental issues? The planting of thousands of trees along the route in Warwickshire where the vast majority perished due to lack of aftercare. The pollution of streams, rivers & other waterways. The bulldozing of mile upon mile of hedgerows containing nesting birds when they specifically said they'd wait until the nesting season was over. Every time the they publish one of their "look what we're doing for the environment" videos, they're just digging themselves into an even bigger hole.

China has built 2,500km of high speed rail quicker than Britain has built this😳
@Whiskey2shots
@Whiskey2shots 11 ай бұрын
China's network isn't actually all that great due to the speed they built it at. Bypassing city centers and building outside cities removing a lot of the advantages of a train over a plane. Also this has only been in build for a handful of years as opposed to the decades China has had. Not to say China's network isn't impressive, it's just they had to cut a lot of corners to build so fast which will be their regret in the future.
@wertrocks123
@wertrocks123 11 ай бұрын
It's also a lot quicker and cheaper to build individual miles in China than here. When you have so many more miles of network to build the economics of scale play a huge part

@@Whiskey2shots There are many videos on youtube about Tofu Dreg construction. I recommend 'China Fact Chasers' hosted by two guys that have lived in China for 10 years and have their own channels. There's also 'China Insight' It's basically cost-cutting construction corruption in China with deadly consequences. I understand that every country has its issues with corruption, but this is pretty bad.

What a ridiculous statement to make. It will not " all grow back again " and will never be the same. This is typical of the short sighted attitude of people who don't know what they are talking about. It sounds like you have swallowed the bait from the HS2 propaganda.
