Matebook 13 is one of the best for the price - I have been using one for some time with AMD Ryzen 5 - with 16GB of RAM - Its very good i get about 7 hours of battery ( USB - C fast charging more than enough) - very comfortable keyboard and very good screen- I use this mainly for my work- I don’t do any gaming. I picked it up for just 800$. The best part of the Matebook is - Fast booting - I think it’s very under rated feature - The finger print sensor is inbuild in the power button ( You don’t need to press twice to log in - from the initial press it will log you in) from a dead start to boot to Windows - no more than 4-7 sec - I really enjoy the Windows experience on this- I am a Mac user - and now I really enjoy Windows experience. I used to carry my Mac to work - because of the portability. Now its even better for me.

Awesome review! I think the issue with the battery also might be because of the 25 W version of the MX150 that the Matebook 13 has. Im gonna get the Matebook 13 instead of the X Pro 2018 because the price in México of the Matebook 13(i7/MX150/8ram/500SSD) is just $1040 USD and the Matebook X Pro (i7/MX150/8ram/500SSD) cost about $1600 USD (we don't have a 16 GB RAM model in Mexico lol)

That battery metric is really a bummer. A bit of a compromise would be fine given some of the other performance metrics you get, but barely over 6 hours is pretty terrible at this price. If not for that this would be a definite contender.

What we need are more 16gb options or 8GB with the ability to add ram when needed.. Windows has improved over the past decade, but so has the memory required. My 5 yr old Lenovo came with 16 which is still enough. But, I think 8GB machines are having to start using swap files at a much lower usage level because Windows and apps have gotten bigger. Looking for a new, lighter laptop for the wife, but it seems almost all the most appropriate ones are 8GB w soldered on RAM. If she keeps it 6-7 years like he current, failing Toshiba, 8GB won't be enough. I was lucky to be able to to add RAM and swap out the old HD for an SSD to keep it useful tho, comparatively slow. Can't add ram any more.

@@Solaxe I suppose you aren't an old fart like me. I remember how thrilled I was to get my first 40MB hard drive and the days of "no one will ever need more than 640k RAM." Old saying is that expenses always rise to meet income. So it is with things like ram and hard drive space; if, as memory prices drop, more machines will be made with 16GB and games and programs will use it. Won't matter if you switch machines every few years, but I don't. Current main machine is a 5yr old Lenovo Y70 that came with 16GB and works OK.

i7 is touch screen, cheaper and has better performance than X Pro. X pro is better on everything else (larger screen, better battery life, better speakers)

Does it get better benchmark scores because the screen is 2k resolution compared to the 4k matebook x pro? I dont quite seem to understand how less specs convert to highers scores. can anyone explain?

Benchmarks are always the same. The resolution at which those are shown doesn't matter nor does it effect results. The matebook 13 has a better cpu - a newer model. 4x 4,6 GHz vs 4x 4,0 GHz The newer graphics card is about 10% faster as well. (If you're in a country where they sell the version with the integrated graphics card)

@@Solaxe few chrome tabs and Photoshop open and that 8gb is done for. Add illustrator, indesign, autocad and Revit to it and even 16gb isn't going to be enough. Pc probably won't stall, but processes will be compromised due to lack of ram and I don't want that...
