The intro to 'Huckleberry Finn And His Friends' the classic 1979 Canadian / German television series starring Ian Tracey as Huckleberry Finn and Sammy Snyders as Tom Sawyer.
The series was re-run many times on various television networks around the world until the early 1990's when it looked like we would never see it again.

I'm 40 now and I know it's not very blokeish but hearing this tune chokes me up; takes me away from all the grown-up problems of life in the adult world and back to when I was a kid to a time when a cuddle from my mum could make everything alright again. :'(

Okay. It`s the year 2022 now. I´m 46 years old, German, and this fantastic TV show was one of the best parts of my childhood. Listen to this wonderful melody almost breaks my heart. After the last years I´m so fed up with the world, the politics, the lies, the wars, the desasters, the darkness..... I want my childhood back, I want to feel secure and safe again!!!!!! (I know, this will never happen) I´m sure I´m not the only one that feels like that.

Oh god, I am 47 and I hear this and I am immediately feeling tearful and nostalgic. Life seemed so much simpler then; being with your parents and feeling secure and happy. Astonishing what these tunes and memories can do, even now. A reminder that those sunny childhood days soon pass and the reality and responsibility of life is never easy.

11 years later and I couldn't agree more. I was born in 1971 and this was a staple of our summer holiday morning viewing before we headed out for the day to play football and cricket, climb trees, make dens, play hide and seek and take long bike rides. Then return to a secure, loving family home. We didn't realise our lucky we were until we got older.

Great series. I was six in 1979 living in Ireland when this came out. Loved the character of Huckleberry Finn as I think most boys did. It sure does bring back happy childhood memories. I remember that episode when the two conmen get tared and feathered and my mother had smoked kippers on for supper. To this day when I have smoked kippers I think of that scene, I can't help associating the two things with each other. It's funny I think if I were ever to witness someone getting tared and feathered I would almost expect them to smell of smoked kippers.😁😁😁

This really takes me back as well, and clutches at the heartstrings as a beloved childhood show (and books), but it's also astonishing to me that this was kids' TV within my lifetime: the credits and theme tune in particular serve up this portrait of a perfect and wonderful sadly-bygone age, and literally include a shot of a grinning runaway slave. Of course the show was more complex than the Care Bears-style theme tune (which I do still love btw) and Mark Twain was a humanist and brilliant satirist but the packaging here is incredible to me now in 2024. I'd be very interested to see a modern reworking of this material, if it's even possible.

I saw it when I was 10 or 11, then it was aired in The Netherlands (so around 1980). They never repeated it, so I saw it only once, but when I saw the DVD a couple of weeks ago, it really struck me how much I remembered. During highschool I had to read a lot of English books, and of course a.o. I read The adventures of Tom Sawyer and The adventures of Huckleberry Finn. During reading the book I kept seeing Sammy Snyders, Ian Tracey, and Blu Mankuma in my head, which made the books even better.

Since I have the DVD box I have already watched it all twice, and it still is so nice to see, even when you know already what is going to happen. Try looking back more on days that were slower When living came easy and neighbours were friends Paddle wheels turning as kids on the river Went seeking adventure on some pirates den Marbles and fishing and resting and wishing The day would come quickly when they would be men Thats where they came from, the time that they came from No better time to live and to grow Oh thats where they came from, the days that they came from Life was so carefree not so long ago

@nufto We had the first Betamax video recorder in the street. A noisy, clunky top loader. I still remember having a load of my excited friends around and we watched "Jaws" mostly hiding behind the sofa or cushions, in about 1980 I think. I remember the shop starting to rent out videos. They had just 4 tapes to start with!

@jacmandora Absolutely brings back fond memories of school summer holidays. If I remember right, like 'Heidi' and 'Dogtanian' the series was so long that it never actually finished before you went back to school!

This clip instantly took me back to the school holidays, when my biggest concern was if i was gonna ride my bike or play kick a tin, the good ole day

spareroom2, & strangeloop - my childhood too! It must be an age thing. It was reminiscing about the good old days/school holidays which made me look up this theme tune - so good to hear it again.

Haha, I've been reading the book and all I've had stuck in my head since I started it was this song, barely remembered from my childhood. I mentioned it at a barbeque the other day and almost everyone there joined in the tune, but were hazy on the words. Thanks for uploading.
