Don't read, take our narrative. We know how busy you are. You want to graduate, right? How will you ever take care of your loved ones if your busy learning the truth! Then you can tell everyone how right you are while you're busy grabbing at random smutted straw, only to hope for survival. Is that what he was saying?

Had 10 weeks to read this book, yet here i am-watching this video one night before my English class's book talk ((((-: edit: guys this was 4 years ago. my class was only allowed to read the book during free time in our class, so all we got was an estimated 5/10 minutes each day... it is not that serious. i was fifteen and now i’m twenty. this was ages ago! no need to be harsh. we all consume literature at different rates and that’s okay. hope everyone enjoyed the book!

I really love mark twain and have read both books multiple times and this is so true for both of his novels. Tom is so full of himself and immature. I mean HE. IS. THE. WORST. He's the 1800s version of Caillou! Huck Finn is so much more multifaceted. He actually has a personality and reasonable motivations and is such an easier character to relate to. Plus he actually seems to care for the people around him. :/

Tom is supposed to represent Romanticism, as viewed from the point of view of Mark Twain, who lived in an age of realism. Huck represents the realist. Prior to the Civil War, when times were pretty dull, people wanted to read the wild adventure stories that Tom liked; after living through the real thing, people found the adventure stories pretty silly.

I found the best way to understand the grammar, more specifically when Jim is talking, is to say it aloud. When you see it you don't really understand but if you say what you see it sounds right and you're better able to comprehend it. Worked for me anyway

@Jesus Christ I live in the South too, have all of my life, my second wife is black, so fucking what; you're nothing special. And yes, it's the Democrat party who are the party of racist, Jim Crow, the KKK, the Confederacy, and fought against civil rights or integrated schools. It was the Republicans who freed the slaves, brought about the 14th, 15th, and 16th amendments, the civil rights act, and abolished Jim Crow laws. Those are the facts, I lived through the '50s and '60s, I was there, deny all you want to believe in an agenda, but if you buy into the bullshit that the Democrats are slinging, you are a useful idiot.

As someone who grew up in the Northeast US, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and later Huck Finn (my dad didn’t let me read Huck until I was 11 because of the language; the only book he wouldn’t let me read) absolutely enthralled me as a child. We have our hicks (I am one) and hillbillies up here, too, but it’s different culturally because of the agriculture/industrial dichotomy of the south and north respectively. Reading those books were like a passport to a different world, even more so than Narnia, Middle Earth or Hogwarts, because Twain’s writings were so viscerally real. If you got time for it, Tom Sawyer is more of a fun tale with less high stakes

@@pheeku6996 Hicks are different from Hillbillies mainly for two reasons: Hillbilly is a legitimate ethnic group. Also, Hillbillies are strictly from Appalachia. A hick is an outdoorsy person from more populated areas like New England (Hi!) or the Midwest. It is used as a derogatory term depending on the context, but I like to reclaim the term. Tl;dr Hicks are basically rednecks that aren’t from the South

@@amoeba6000 Here is the tip. First step is to make a character map. Now question is how? Put a protagonist in the centre draw other circles near him/her write name in circles. Connect them to the others and in arrow between them write their relationship for example siblings. Read their relationship and remember profession names etc. Read it three times. (2) : Now it's time for summary. Read summary one time (3) : Watch movie, play or animated movie based on the novel (4) : Now read summary again. It's the best way to memorize your novels and plays in a short time. 😊
