What an amazing fossil. You did a great prep job. The dremel appears to make the prep easier.

Why a fabulous fossil 😃. Well worth all the time and effort you put in to prepping and coating it 👍. Not to mention lugging it all the way home😉.

Very nice job prepping your amonite fossil

Super fossil video. Especially with the low sunshine highlighting the contours. Lost count of how many days it took you, from the shadows getting longer. If you set up indoors with a strong spotlight low on the right and a large, diffuse light somewhere up and left of the camera, then your fossil prep video lighting will look as good as these, plus you'd be able to see details emerging as you work. Yay, dino-hoodie cameo appearance!

Gosh Emma, you work fast!!! ;-) In all seriousness, that ammonite looks fabulous after the prep! You certainly have an eye for detail and the patience required to clean up one of those bad boys. I'm currently in New Mexico completing some field work for a project that should have been done months ago..... until covid came along. Btw, I sent you another email a while back so please check whatever box the last one ended up in. ;-)

Great job on the prep! How do you like your Dremel for removing matrix? Also, what are your plans after finishing your Masters degree? I hope you use your talents in paleontology.

Thank you! The Dremel is amazing so far 😍 I really recommend it! After my masters I'd love to work in geology conservation - or science communication 😁 but nothing set in stone yet 😉🦕 (.. or a PhD 👀)

i own a Dremel that i use for woodworking. I'm wondering what cutter/tip you're using. Is it a burr? Also, are the orange/rust regions because it has become Pyritized?

The nibs are special ones for using on rocks from paleozoictech - they work brilliantly 😍 yes I believe so 🦕

Is the Dremel a rotary tool or an engraver? The rotary ones spin like a drill. I think the engravers work like a mini jackhammer - thrusting back and forth really quickly.
@EmGems3 жыл бұрын
This dremel is an engraver :)

See, if I'd just watched this video, I could have avoided leaving a patronising comment about mask wearing on your first Dremel video. My bad!
