Installing a Schluter Kerdi Line drain is no simple task, and when you install two in the same shower (over 8' of drain), many considerations need to be taken. In a double line drain installation, it is very important to get the placement correct and use the correct methods to ensure a waterproof installation.
I also show how to float a shower floor, which is a widely used method for making a floor flat and level. It is very important to make the floor flat and level before you lay the tile.

During these times I hope you are staying brave, not just safe. I value courage and wisdom more than I do safety. I definitely did not get to where I've gotten by "being safe". I got here by taking calculated risks and following opportunities as they presented themselves.
So I wish you all courage, wisdom, and most importantly love. Stay strong, because your family, friends, and community need you to be.
Last but not least, I love you guys and I love being your TileCoach!

I love seeing a contractor doing his job properly. There are very few of people like you. I have a summer house in southern europe (built 10 years ago) and I have spent 3 years of my life fixing huge amount of faults in showers, kitchen, walls, ventilation, plumbing, electricity and heat collectors. And I am not half way through reparation process.

I've been using hot glue and blue tape a ton lately. Tape a strip of blue tape to the top of your level. Hot glue a leveling clip to the blue tape and mark your laser refrence on it so you have your screed refrence on your level. It works perfect. When your done you've just got to undo the blue tape and you've still got a clean level. 👌🤓

You make me want to float all my floors! too bad it's just never feasible for us because builders never account for it here. I guess I'll have to make it a point to make sure it's a detail included in the plans for my house whenever I get around to building it lol.

Another nice job. Back when I was doing tile, we used the redwood strip for the walls and counter top steel edge for the floors. Since it was only an stamped steel it left very little void in the floor. And they were only a few feet long.

Love the attention to detail, listening to what customers want & work with them.....& take pride in the work you do. I’m from Downunder & the available product options, as well as installation methods definitely vary here. I just finished installing 2 x Bellessi Shower over Tile Trays, and their tray drains are screwed straight into the plumbing fittings, removing that as a point of failure. Keen to get tiling finished so that I can admire my handiwork (and have a shower- that outdoor “hanging bag is getting ‘old’)

Hey Isaac i appreciate your wealth of knowlede and sharing it all with everyone. Ive noticed in your videos you almost always end with saying "I love you". That makes me think maybe you have a relationship with Jesus Christ, the savior of all humanity. I only say this because I love you, and if what i said is true, then you know what i mean. If not, then i just want to say that Christ is in love with you, and He has a plan and purpose for you. He is calling you, better to give Him your life asap then to wait it out. So back to the trades, I love your attention to detail, as i am cut from the same cloth. Your knowledge in the videos you have put out has helped me tremendously, especially with floating. I have been in the trades for 20 years and specifically the shower build/ tile trade predominantly the past 6 years. Your videos have helped me a ton, and i appreciate what you do. They have helped me learn how to float like a proffesianal! Keep doing what you do and keep it 100! Love you man!

Nice job ,thanks for all your videos ,very helpful, this similar of what we do in my country Peru. I have a question about curing time and the tile installation over the new concrete bed, I hear a lot about of this all the time "Tiling should begin within approximately 16 hours of the mortar bed installation. After 24 hours, the mortar bed enters a green state and should not have tile adhered to it for 28 days.) back when I was living in peru I never here about this ,my brother are concrete guys and they never mention it, and the other thing is about red guard over this concrete bed ,should this concrete cure 28 days before red guard be install ?. Thanks again for your videos, I subscribed to your channel your videos are awesome.

Thanks for all your great video tutorials. Truly amazing! But I'm puzzled about the function of the Kerdi-Line foam carrier. It seems that being foam, it's intended to act as an uncoupling component between the subfloor and the line drain /membrane. If that's true, then filling the underside with thin-set as you've shown seems to defeat the purpose of the foam carrier. Perhaps its purpose is to simple space the drain off the subfloor? What am I missing?

This video was just what I was looking for - great timing! One question, where the deck mud meets the Kerdi line drain, how thick is the mud? If the kerdi line drain is 3/4”, but you take off 1/4” for the dittra heat, is the minimum thickness of the deck mud preslope 1/2”? I’m thinking about doing almost exactly this case DIY, and have discovered there isn’t any code requirement on the thickness or material of the preslope, only that it needs to have a minimum slope of 1/4” per foot. So my question is basically what you think about how thin the deck mud preslope can be up against the drain (on a second floor bathroom on plywood subfloor). Thanks, and keep the great content coming!

@ThielTube
@ThielTube 4 жыл бұрын
So as i agree with your statement but technically... they don't slope all the way to the way to the wall or they are not supposed to . there would be a small slope from the wall to the drain in the opposite direction so any water that flows down the wall will be directed into the drain as well. my thing is i am sketched out how he uses chicken wire in the floor.. that stuff is very weak and doesn't have the strength of extruded metal sheets. this seems to be a California thing because here in the east coast i have never seen anything like that

Great vid. Maybe next time you could red guard the floor around the drain on the bare plywood. Then set your drains. That way there is a 2nd layer of protection. I am always scared of linear drains on plywood floors. There is so little waterproofing around the perimeter of linear drains. Extra cost up front saves thousands later in call backs.

Do you worry about the bond breaking from the plywood? Wouldnt coating it in red guard before thin setting it down be a good idea to ensure that never happens?
@adamberezow5957
@adamberezow5957 3 жыл бұрын
There is no bond with the plywood underneath, nor is there supposed to be one. The chicken wire is stapled down on top of the AquaBarB and it is essentially old school ditra mat. The staples are like the felt of ditra mat. That’s where the movement between the subfloor and mudbed is absorbed. If you bond solidly to the subfloor you actually make the floor more susceptible to cracking from movement. With ditra mat installed on top of this floor, it will survive an earthquake.

If you want to use KERDI-DRAIN-FC connector between stainless steel grades, you will end up with ~1 3/8" overlap. Which is much better than 3/4" you mentioned. But still way less than 2" www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en_US/Shower-System/Accessories/Profiles/Schluter%C2%AE-KERDI-LINE-FC/p/KERDI_LINE-FC
