This video shows the happy creation of a huge acrylic pour painting that had six flip cups. I had been jonesing to do a big acrylic pour painting for a while, so when it came time to choose colors, it was hard to decide! I just picked the ones that made me happiest! Paint pouring does not always turn out the way you want it to. This pour painting had some problems, but I still love it and had a lot of fun making it.

Acrylic Pouring Recipe:
3 parts paint
1 part pouring medium (1/2 Liquitex pouring medium, 1/2 GAC 800)
About 1.5 parts thinning solution (1/4 pouring medium, 3/4 water) - this varied, I thin to the correct consistency.
Colors Used in the Acrylic Pour Flip Cups: Iridescent Green Blue (pebeo), 24K Gold (Decoart), quinacridone magenta (liquitex basics), azo orange (amsterdam), dioxazine purple (liquitex basics), metallic purple (blick), cadmium yellow medium (pebeo), azo yellow light (pebeo), alizarin crimson (pebeo), terra rosa w/black (pebeo)

I hear ya! If you keep the consistency thick and try not to mix colors in the cup it usually works out. I have a hard time using less than 10 colors, even when I am trying to! I start mixing paint and just want to keep going. I appreciate you watching!

Do you put the silicone in each color or do you do it between the layers? I am really new to this....thanks.

Hi Ellie!! Welcome to the wonderful world of pouring. I hope you are having fun. I apologize for my delay as I have been sick for the past couple of months. In terms of silicone, I put it in each color - about a drop every ounce or two of mixed paint (so 6-12 drops in a 12 ounce cup of mixed paint). I will occasionally put a single drop between a layer or two in the cups as well, but I am careful not to over do that.

I notice that you don't put on a white under layer on the canvas before you pour. Why is that?

I didn't want white in this painting so there's no reason for me to put white on it. I don't know why people put down white base coats. Almost never do.

Beautiful as always, so vibrant, so talented but I have to say girl please wear gloves, Acrylic paints are not meant to be used on the skin because it is toxic in nature. It consists of formaldehyde that can cause carcinogenic effects on the skin. Although most label it as non-toxic but does not necessarily mean it is not toxic for the skin. Someone who cares!
