Don't circle your body. And dint move your body too fast And keep hoop parallel to the floor . Don't over think it .

I learned that your hoop should sit at about bellybutton height from the floor. Everyone's trying to hoop using equipment meant for seven-year-olds.

Yep! The bigger the hoop, the slower it will rotate 👍 The belly button can be a good guide when starting out, but people generally prefer to downsize once they start learning other tricks ☺️

by the way, i hula hoop every day for at least an hour and i can confirm that side to side works! it probably depends on what you're comfortable with though, so try whatever you want, but don't forget this option! :))
