An honest review of Hultafors Exped Knife......quality or trash? This video looks at this mass produced budget bushcraft/survival knife...so which is it?

This is an excellent knife. I carry this with a multi tool all around the world and I am set for most problems and jobs I encounter. Best money/quality value. Very good review and agree with everything. A must have for any traveler.

Good review of a good kinife. Just don't know why people still think it's Hultafors answer to the Mora robust where it is the other way around. The Mora robust line of knives is Mora's answer to the Hultafors GK.

Thank you for that unbiased review of an inexpensive knife. For me, this is what bushcraft is all about. Finding a few pieces of simple & robust kit, and using them to make yourself comfortable in the woods. A stainless steel bottle, cup spoon and billycan, a Bic lighter, an inexpensive tarp or two, 15 metres of paracord, and I'm all set for a day outdoors.

Nice honest review! So nice to see a change from the many corporate shill reviews all over KZfaq.

Ah dang it. I was just about sold on the Elk Ridge 555 knife but I came across your video by chance. You make such a compelling case for this knife, I may have to reconsider now. :) :) :) :)

Greetings. I hesitated to buy this knife, but your review convinced me to do it. In Poland, the cost of this knife is about 6 hours of work, so it is the best choice between price and quality.

Good review Neil. The plain HD is also very good, a bit plainer handle and a similar blade without the coating - well worth a look.

Good review Neil. I bought one a couple of months ago. Not used it yet but your endorsement has given me even more confidence in my decision to buy one ! Take care & all the best, Neil.

You have convinced me mate. Thank you for the great review. The older I get the more I'm looking to the strong, light workhorses of Mora and Hultafors and leaving the pricier, flashier Bark River and Fallknivens of the world behind. Am I mad I ask you? I don't think so.

Another great review! Just what I need. I have an aged Frosts Mora Clipper which has seen better days and I wanted a good all round bushcraft tool to get me back on track to use with my Laplander, this seems to be just that! P{rice is great and like you say I won't cry my self to sleep if I lose it (been looking at the Casstrom Lars Falt) I may well just get this on the back of your review so thank you

So I bought one of these and tested it out in the woods last weekend. Just battoning and making feather sticks, really like it so thank you!

Really looks like a nice blade. I have the small brother and find it solid enough.

Have you used the Hultafors craftmans knives? I have one as a safety knife for my kayak but never used it for anything else. I have the heavy duty knife but find it a bit too thick in the blade.
@jelkel256 жыл бұрын
There's no way to show on camera just how solid this knife is! I bought this knife about the same time you did but I'd bought a Mora 2000 about 6 months before that and really took to it. Unfortunately as happens occasionally the M2000 kept getting put in my rucksack and this one got left at home. I'm glad I bought it, it's very impressive in itself and I might take to it in the future.
@greencraft47836 жыл бұрын
I never took to the blade on the 2000. Try this one out - it's a great bit of kit.

Did a lot of hardwood carving today, partly with a Hultafors chisel knife and it was outstanding, will give the OK4 another look.
@peterkim34856 жыл бұрын
thumbs up. I have the OK1. hands down beats all other knives in its class. the only thing I did to modify it was to add a button snap to the sheath to retain the handle.
@masterleatel11 ай бұрын
I ordered one and it came blunt as a butter knife, bit of an exaggeration but I was kind of disappointed. Ordered a whetstone so let's see how it does after a proper sharpening.

I've recently received one of these, can anyone tell me if the spine of the knife is supposed to be rough towards the point of the blade?
@pennsyltuckyreb9800 Жыл бұрын
Yep. Mine was rough too. If you don't like that you can always take the spine to some stones and smooth it all out which I did. I also reworked the scandi grind on water stones to a polished surface and stropped on a secondary convex bevel for strength. Love it even more now.

Kydex should be mandatory if a sheath is not going to be thick genuine leather :d

Agree with you a great knife for the money,have you tried a maartinni condor timberjack, I used one before I bought the ok4 and it is a comparable knife ,full tang .Proof you don't need a 300 quid knife to go camping with. Regards Mick

nobody destroyed a hultafors heavy duty/OK4. i never found a Video
@SunShine-vr4km2 жыл бұрын
This is a so useful comment for me. I've heard the same about Hultafors compared to Mora. I'm def going to buy a Mora Robust. ⚡
@pennsyltuckyreb9800 Жыл бұрын
I have many Moras and the OK4.....I'd take the OK4 any day over the Moras for several reasons. And DBK did a destruction test with the OK4 against a Mora and some other similar knife and the OK4 was the only one that survived. The OK4 was their pick. Obviously though, it's not the kind of knife for smashing through things constantly. Neither are Moras. Cutting and light batoning should never break this blade. Not sure how you managed to break yours.... I did rework the scandi grind to a polished edge and a slight convexed secondary bevel for strength. Screaming sharp and durable edge now.
@pennsyltuckyreb9800 Жыл бұрын
@@stefan-D If anyone is breaking either Moras or Hultafors type knives that just means they don't understand the concept of a small knife. Outside of extreme destruction tests like DBK or "Joe X"....I have no idea how anyone would break something like an OK4...lol. like wut
